>>>>The Catholic church DOES approve of one method of birth control.....the Rhythm Method, otherwise known as "Catholic Roulette". "Good" Catholic families are usually large families!

The Catholic church approves of methods which rely on the woman's natural cycle to determine times when she is fertile. There are multiple methods that are used. And believe it or not, they work if you follow the rules. My wife and I are Catholic and we have 4 children. Each one was planned and none were surprises.

And those methods work IF you follow the rules, and IF you know for a FACT when the woman is ovulating. Not all women have regular cycles, or even "normal" cycles. The "normal" cycled woman ovulates one or two days in the middle of her cycle. Some women ovulate for a longer period, or in a different part of the cycle.

AND we know that EVERYTHING can affect our cycles, too! Stress, fatigue, hormone imbalance, weight changes, and on and on. Using the rhythm method is a full-time job for women and IMO, that's not fair in a marriage.

Hold on everyone. Let us all step away from the table and take a deep breath. What started out as a question about Christians and pornography turned into a debate about different religions, the regulating of sex between a couple by the Catholic church, and people being misquoted on something they didn't say. As expected a question like this opened up a firestorm, but let's try and stay with what was originally asked. As many of you have already said, it is primarily for the couple to decide. If they feel strong enough in their religious convictions to not watch porn, they won't watch it. If they take the position that its ok as long as it's done in the privacy of their home, then they see no problem with it. No one can speak for the masses, only for themselves. My DW and I used to watch it years ago, but not anymore. That's a decision we made for ourselves but we by no means pass judgment on anyone else for doing it. While we may have different views on this subject as well as others, let us not forget that we can agree to disagree. And its all about love.

Peace

I agree but this is a forum to share opinions and no respondant, that I can see, is passing judgement or criticising the opinions or religious leanings of anyone else.

Many times a thread will start on one subject and end on another. No harm in that...it's just the normal development of a discussion among many people.

But not sanctioning any kind of birth control, other than the rhythm method, is one defining feature of Catholism that will always invite discussion, particularly with women.

And there IS always room for friendly debate and discussion and IMO, that's all that's happening on this thread.

Kat, I never said you said everyone is the same ..I wasnt inferring that.

the eyeroll was meant to be a tongue in cheek..everyone knows not everyone is the same.
My point was that all porn isnt the same..I think some of the old porn is discusting how it portrayed women, as sex objects, only there for mens pleasure. But the new trend is one of a satisfied woman enjoying her sexuality. I have no problem with that porn at all.

Explicit sexual material put out by teaching facilities and medical institutions are about education, but your garden variety porn is not. Porn is a business and the only way to stay profitable is to be as shocking and controversial as possible, sometimes to the physical/medical detriment of their "stars."

I've never seen evidence of a mentally healthy, functionally mature porno star. Something has to be missing in a person, IMO, for them to engage in sexual activity with a complete stranger for money. Most have very serious emotional issues from past abuse leading to drug dependancy, etc.

And because someone is profitting from the dysfunction of those people, I have a problem with supporting the industry by purchasing it.

Besides, nothing will ever be as sexy as your own imagination.
