Is this common?

I ended a long term relationship over 8 months ago, and have been dating for the past 6 months.

I've been going out with this great guy for over a month- I've never been with anybody who's treated me as respectfully and amazingly as him, and in a way that's what's attracted me to him. He seems very emotionally stable, but he always seemed to me a bit inexperienced. To make the long story short, we ended up having sex last week, and he told me it was his first time. I'm nobody to judge, since I've only had one partner (I'm 27), but I was wondering how common is this, for a 29 year old guy to be a virgin? Our first time together wasn't great, but it wasn't bad either- and he seems very willing to learn. I don't want to judge him over this, but wanted to hear other people's opinions. Thanks!

My Hubby and I got married, I was 20 and he was 27, and we were the first for each other on our marriage night.

While it's probably not very common in this day in age, I would look at it as a good thing. If he's willing to learn you can teach him based on what you like. He obviously doesn't have any moves which he might think are great, but you really don't care for.

Besides, since you will start out slow you will have a lot to look forward to, keeping things fresh and exciting for a long time.

I wouldn't say it's common, but then as you said, it's very unusual for a single

That is a really good point you could almost train him to become the perfect lover to you're liking ; ) I learned alot of things since I was 17 lol

Welcome to the board me_sweet79.

I agree with the others that it's not common for a 29 yo guy to be a virgin, but I don't think it's unheard of either. I'm sure as you get to know him better, you will learn about why he was a virgin. As someone else mentioned, just because he was a virgin doesn't necessarily mean he didn't have any kind of sexual experience.

I also agree that you can have fun teaching him what you like sexually.

my current dh was not a virgin when I married him. However, in discussions we had "in general" of our pasts he mentioned that he was in his early 30s before he lost his virginity.

FWIW, we are incredibly sexually compatible -- and makes my toes curl on a regular basis.

A 29 year old virgin has got to be pretty uncommon.
