Condom broke, when is right for a EPT
| Mon, 11-22-2004 - 4:58pm |
I have a question:
My fiance and I had sex on friday 11/19 and we found that the condom was broke when he took it out, we're not sure if it was broke when he has it in me or right as he was taking it out. There was cum still in the condom(as much as normal when he cums) so we're not sure if any got into me. My question is my period is suppose to come monday 11/22 when can I take a pregnancy test or how will I know if I'm pregnant. My period comes a week late. How do I go about this? If anyone can help I would appriciate it.
Thanks

I"m confused .. you say your period is due today and then say it comes a week late. Does that mean that you are on a 5-week/35 day cycle as opposed to the normal 4-week/28day? If so, does that mean your 5 weeks is today, or 4 weeks is today?
In any case, many HPTs on the market can detect pregnancy on the first day of a missed period. There are some that can detect it BEFORE

Let's talk about Fertility Awareness.
Fertility Awareness (FA) is the practice of charting your fertility cycle to determine when you are fertile, to predict periods, to plan and recognize when you are pregnant, and to monitor overall health. FA method is a scientificly established method for understanding your body and your cycle by charting three primary occurances: 1. basal body temperature, 2. cervical fluid, and 3. cervical position.
When you practice fertility awareness, you can know when you're fertile and when you're not. If you have sex during a fertile period and a condom breaks, you know whether you need to take EC or not, and you'll know within 18-20 days whether or not you're pregnant. You'll also know if you're pregnant even if you get a "false period" or "breakthrough bleeding," just by monitoring your cycle. Similarly, if you are still using a condom when you're not fertile (as we do), you'll not be as worried about it if a condom breaks.
The process of charting is easy and takes about 2 minutes a day. It's very inexpensive and when practiced appropriately, it is as effective as the birth control pill (and related BC). For more information about FA method, check out Taking Charge of Your Fertility and/or Garden of Fertility. Both have web sites, but of course the books are in depth and explain the whole process.
Good luck!
ok, the FA thing was confusing.
For everyone who's confused on my period time. Its suppose to come the 22nd(28 days) but it normally comes a few days late. I've never heard of the 35 days so tahts why i was saying 28 day. I'm going to wait untill this week like Wednesday and take one. so Wednesday it would have been 5 days after it happened. Then I"ll see unless my period comes before wednesday. Then on Wednesday if I take the test and it comes out neagitve I'll just wait till friday or satruday to see if my period does come but if it hasnt come by then I'll take another test to see for sure. And I may be stressing over this so that causes the period to come later than usual. I'll keep people updated if anyone wants to know if I am or not pregnant.
first, the 28 day thing is a statistical average. individual women have shorter or longer cycles. my cycle is 31 days; my sister's is 29; one of my friends is a natural 3 month between periods. Also, sometimes my cycle changes--one month it'll be 31 says, another it'll be 27, and then it'll go to 34. So, you can't go on a 28 day cycle to estimate when you'll get your period, whether or not your pregnant, or even when you're fertile. the only way to know is to chart your cycle.
the reason that i brought up FA is because it's a reliable method for knowing when you're fertile and when you're not, and whether or not you're pregnant without having to worry, take tests, or whatever. it won't work right now, but it will work in the future. If condoms are your only form of BC, then you'll probably want to know when you're more likely to be pregnant if the condom breaks and when you're not. Then you can go "Oops! condom broke, but i'm in the luteal phase of my cycle, so no worries--i'm not fertile so i'm not going to get pregnant (you can't get pregnant if you're not fertile)!" or you can so "Oops! the condom broke, and i'm fertile. I could get pregnant. What shall i do? i could wait 18 days and see what happens and decide then what to do, OR i could take EC now and make sure that i don't get pregant."
Do you get why i posted about it now? If you're not fertile, then you can't get pregnant. Most women are fertile for only a four day period somewhere in their cycle--and that's different for different women too. Three or more women may have roughly the same number of days in a cycle, but one will be fertile in the first week, one in the second, one in the third, and one just before her period. The only way to know is to chart. Other than that, it's all guess work.
just information.
