HaHaHa That is really funny. I too am wondering how you explained the socks to your kids.
Our headboard used to bang against the wall too, and it drove me to distraction. I cut a couple of sponges into strips and stragically placed them between the wall and headboard. The only problem was figuring out a way to attatch the sponges to the headboard. DH came up with the solution to that....DUCT TAPE, what else. Worked wonders!

I have been wanting to get some foam blocks to put behind the headboard. I figured I would just glue them to the wall, but I don't have any fabric stores nearby. I have checked in some other stores, but haven't found anything that would really work.
The way we learned how far the sound traveled, we were making a good bit of noise in the morning. Only my youngest DS was home, and we suddenly heard a noise outside of our bedroom. It was a click, click, click. We quieted down, and listened. The noise stopped and we went back to what we were doing. Next thing we new, we heard "click, click, click" again. DH asked who was there, and DS answered it was him. DH went to the door to see what he wanted, and when he opened the door to peek out, DS was standing there with a toy gun. DH asked him why he was outside our door playing with his gun, and he responded "stop that banging in there!" We were both in hysterics, laughing by this time.
That's when the socks went on! We figure if the kids ask, we'll just tell them every time one of us moves, it hits the wall, and we didn't want to wake each other up.

I think there might be an award for the most hi-jacked thread in the making here!
Oh, my darling, knock three times on the ceiling if you want me
Twice on the pipe if the answer is no, oh, my sweetness
(Knock, knock, knock!) Means you'll meet me in the hallway
Mmm, twice on the pipe (clink, clink) means you ain't gonna show
Really showing our age, aren't we, lol.
