GUYS: Testosterone issues?

I'm 34 and have always dated men 5, 10, and 15 years older than myself. Actually, when I was 21, I briefly dated a 50 year old man and he didn't seem to have any sexual issues that I can recall. But recently, having had a couple of serious relationships with men in their mid and late 40's, I've discovered that a lot of guys hit a certain age and feel a drastic decline in their testosterone production, resulting in a much lower libido among other things. My current BF, 45, has been on testosterone therapy since before we met and I can definitely attest to its efficasy if low libido ever was indeed a problem for him, lol. Though, I do notice it seems harder for him to ejaculate and it's often not as much as you might expect - not that that matters in the slightest since it doesn't bother him and he happens to rock my world. But I experienced the whole process with another 5 year relationship, wherein he suddenly couldn't perform as usual and was diagonsed with low testosterone (and this man was a force to be reckoned with, a total beast, in a good way). Then, in talking with some of their friends, I discovered this is a pretty typical phenomonon among middle-aged men. Any other men out there experiencing this? How has it affected you? How has it affected your SO? And if you're on testosterone therapy, I'm wondering if there are any negative side affects you know of or have experienced. Also, does it in any way alter your personality so that you might be inclined to cheat when you weren't before? My BF says that some of the men he knows on testosterone therapy are like raging bulls and they can't decide where to stick it first - not exactly conducive to an exclusive committed relationship but I imagine that's more of an exception than the rule...

I'm 51 years old.  I've been on testosterone cypionate injections for about 2 years(physician prescibed).  I use about .75ml of 100mg/ml weekly.  That is sufficient for me to maintain blood levels around 600( plenty high enough for me).  The injections are much cheaper than the gels and patches and I did not have to jump through all the insurance company hoops to get it.  A vial costs about $60 and last me about 12 weeks.  The needles are also cheap.

Side effects:  During the first few months of use, acne on my chest and back.  I just used a daily astrigent cleaners on those areas.  I no longer have to do that but do get an occasional zit on my back.  My testicles have definitely shrunk.  I guess that since they no longer need to produce, they have probably lost half their volume.  I'm no longer packing walnuts; more like pecan size now.  It's a little strange to have them smaller but they also seem less sensitive rough handling/impact.

I have been using Cialis/viagra for about 10 years now.  The T has really reduced the need.  When sex is in the forecast, I take one-half of a daily Cialis.  That's only 2.5mg and gives me enough help to maintain a good erection.

Before going on T, I had noticed that noctural erections..aka morning wood, had become almost non-existent.  That is certainly no longer the case.

I have noticed that my sexual thoughts and online porn viewing increased.  I would never be unfaithful so "sticking it anywhere" just isn't an issue for me.

That's about all I can think of at the moment.  If you have a questions, just ask.

Thank you for the informative response, Pault. And yes, he too has experienced the incredible shrinking testicles which I think is pretty much unavoidable with T therapy. Frankly, I'm just glad that the issue is being recognized and addressed and men seem to be happy with this form of treatment. Because, in my experience, there is nothing like a mature, experienced man in bed and it would be an awful shame and a terrible waste if just when you guys are becoming truly masterful, your bodies refused to cooperate. I am still curious about how T therapy affects ejaculation. If you pop back in and don't mind sharing, do you find it harder to ejaculate and is  the amount significantly less than it used to be? Thanks again.

The T does not seem to have had any effect on ejaculation.    I had a vasectomy about 10 years ago after my second child was born.  I've always come faster than I wanted.  I'm not a minute man, but I like to be able to last as long as it takes her to reach orgasm. (We do use toys to help that along).  Our intercourse(thrusting) typically lasts 5-10 minutes. If I use a condom, I can last indefinitly. It can even be a bit difficult to come as times.  Of course, we both prefer the feeling of of bareback.

If he is having trouble reaching ejaculation through intercourse, can you get him closer to climax through other means(oral, manual, toys) and then finish with him inside if that is desired.  Would he be open to some anal play?  Maybe an anal plug would help him reach climax faster.

Also, be sure to ask about other medications that can be effecting performance. In my case, I take 2 blood pressure meds and a statin. Statins tend to lower testosterone. BP meds can make maintaining erections more difficult. Meds for anxiety & depression can certainly effect both male and female sex drives and orgasms.

My sex drive has always been very high and about 8 years ago my husband had some other health issues that really diminshed his sex drive.  I'm now 46 and he's over 60 now.  He's over his health problems and now he's on a new  testostorone treatment, Axion, I think.  He puts it under his arms and  he tries to keep it off me but for some time now I have more body hair and dark, fine hair on my arms and other places.  No facial hair thank goodness, but I'm shaving my legs and underarms more often and  I've gotten more pubic hair too but I shave that too.  It's almost like when I was younger. It's not objectionable so I haven't worried about it but it's something to consider.  The good thing is that his sex drive is that of a much younger man.
