headaches and condoms ?
| Wed, 06-11-2008 - 9:52pm |
My boyfriend and i have recently just started using condoms as i cant be on the pill anymore because i bleed constantly. he says that he gets headaches as soon as he comes while wearing a condom.
What could be the cause of this ?
Its happened 2 times out of the 4/5 times we've had sex. But for the past 2 years before hand while i was on the pill, we never used condoms - never complained about getting a headache after sex.

Can't say that I've ever heard of this before (the headaches), but some people are allergic to latex. Maybe try a different brand and see if the same thing happens.
Hopefully if anyone else has experienced something similar, they'll chime in.

Never heard of this.
Could be an allergy, could be from having to work harder, but...
Then again, my first thought is that he's faking it and preparing to say "Honey, I keep getting these headaches, so we're going to have to stop using the condoms and go unprotected. I'll be careful, I swear."
Did you use condoms when you first got together? Did he have headaches then?

first thing that came to my head when i read it also...
Then again I am allergic to latex. I found out by the first time I used one. I had ic with my bf at the time and passed out, swelled up and had breathing difficulties...... my bf took me to the emergency room quick. (What a wonderful experience that was)
Allergic reactions come in different ways though..... something to keep in mind.
Oh my, that had to have been a horrible experience for you.
I have a friend who has such bad latex allergies, she always has irritations, and sometimes sores from the elastic in bras, underwear and bathing suits. She even takes an allergy medication to help deal with it on a daily basis.

yes it was quite a scare........especially. for bf at the time. LOL
But I have learned to deal with it. I did not have sex with anyone for a long time after that. And then i was and still am extremely careful. Even with the toys I buy i have to know what they are made out of...... but its okay now, i just have to be care with the dr and dentist visits......lol you know latex gloves and all.......lol
Hi Missy...
Not trying to hijack, but I'm allergic to latex as well...not the rash type of allergy - the throat closing, passing out kind of allergy.
There is a medical condition called Coital Cephalalgia which is a form of migraine headache. Medical scientists think that it may relate to high blood pressure. Coital cephalaligia has been found to occur before, during, and after ejaculation. The headaches can last from a few minutes to a couple of days. Doctors have found that the problem can be eliminated or reduced by the person taking BP meds. What your BF needs to do first is to go to the doctor and have his BP checked to make sure he doesn't have a pre-existing problem. Having sex does significantly increase a persons BP which can compound a pre-existing BP problem.
Now the second question is why he gets a headache with the use of a condom and not before without a condom. Allergies, maybe. Ask him if he has any local symptoms like external burning of his penis or itching. These are signs of a allergic response. Allergies usually worsen with time. If the orgasm is the problem, have him masturbate or do a BJ on him and see if he gets a headache. This may help to determine whether the headache are condom related.
The bases of the condom does act like a rubberband, this may cause BP issues.
Condoms do reduce sensation during intercourse so maybe your BF is trying harder to feel all the good stuff and the extra effort is raising his BP or tightening his neck muscles.
Keep us posted
