HOW Often Do We Have Lustful Thoughts?

From the web :

Yes, someone was paid to do this. Researchers from California State University, Los Angeles have scientifically determined that men think about sex an average of 37 times a week, while women have lustful thoughts an average of nine times a week. That means both men and women let their minds wander afar at least once a day.

The study, conducted by Cal State psychology professor Pamela Regan and psychology graduate student Leah Atkins, surveyed 676 men and women with an average age of 25, asking each about the intensity and frequency with which they experienced sexual desire. "Virtually every participant in this study, male and female, reported having experienced sexual desire, and they did so on a daily basis," Regan explained to HealthDayNews.

Lest you think only men have such thoughts, think again. While 98.8 percent of men did admit to it, 95.9 percent of women did too. Men do have these thoughts four times more frequently than women, a fact that is confirmed by earlier research.

"These differences may reflect socialization processes that differentially influence men's and women's sexual attitudes and behavior," Regan theorized. "Alternatively, they may reflect underlying biological differences between men and women." She suspects that the male hormone testosterone is at work stimulating desire more frequently in men than in women.

Regan told HealthDayNews, that "the experience of desire may be the single most common sexual event in the lives of men and women." The study findings were presented to the American Psychological Society annual meeting in Los Angeles.

So, are you above average or below average????

I'm probably above average. My drive is higher than my DH's.

I wonder who this researcher talked to because I can promise that I am well over average for women. I often wake up with lustful thoughts, and some days they will keep reoccurring again and again. I am wondering whether women are less prepared to admit to lustful thoughts than men? Elaine

Hmmm: Only 37 times a week (for the guys)?

More like 37 times a DAY for most men. Sometimes it seems like it's 37 times an hour, LOL. Of course, there are days when I only think about sex once. It depends on whether anyone breaks my chain of thought.

I will say that I'm still surprised to find out that women think about sex at all. I don't think that will ever change.

I think it's more about distraction and concentration. ;-) In other words prioritzation. If I was watching a three-year-old, and a hunk in bike shorts with a bulging... happened to be crossing the street, my thoughts would remain focused on the child. Take away the child and there'd be a different result. Same thing with work, projects, hobbies, etc. I tend to concentrate on the task at hand and not allow my thoughts to wander--it's very productive. If I'm thinking about sex--I know I'm too idle. tee hee

I'm with Elaine--I think women who participated in that study might not be truthful--9 times a week seems awfully low. Or else I'm several standard deviations above the norm.

Of course anyone who reads/posts on a sex board is going to be way above the average in terms of lustful thoughts... ;)

krn, perhaps you need to post this question on a home & gardening message board and see what responses you get.

Maybe it's because you judge a person's libido based only on how often they think lustful thoughts rather than base it on how sexual they actually are? In other words, I may not think about sex but once or twice in a day, but I may think about it when the opportunity arises. Know what I mean? I could be busy all day long and not think about sex, and then while laying on the couch watching television with DH, I all of a sudden want sex. And conversely, I may not be thinking about sex, but DH kisses me or makes a sexual suggestion, and I'm there. In other words, I'm always ready for sex, even if I haven't thought about it 37 times an hour that day.

Maybe the results reflect the fact that women just aren't as obsessed with sex because they can pretty much get it anywhere, anytime, from just about anyone. ;-) Whereas, men on the other hand can't. That makes more sense to me. The forbidden fruit syndrome. tee hee
