how to shave?

Okay, so I shaved completely, once, well actually twice. Then I got BV. I used some bikini shaving gel. I thought I was careful not to get it inside, but maybe it was a coincidence. Anyway, I let it grow back. Maybe I did it wrong. What should I use and which way should I angle the razor? Toward my leg or toward the inside or down toward my toes or up toward my stomach? I still felt prickely when I was done. I can barely see what I'm doing. I end up pulling and pushing and I'm thinking there has got to be an easier way. Then I got bumps and I'm just thinking "Is it worth it?" But I think I would really like it better if I could figure out a better technique. And since I read here that lots of people have been doing this I figured you guys had all the kinks worked out and could give me some pointers.
Another question. He shaves the base of his penis. It is something he does for himself. He is self-conscious about it. I told him it's fine, but if he's more comfortable shaving, then fine. My question is would his hair irritate the inside of my vagina? There was one day that he had shaved the day before and sex was painful, a little. He thought it might be the tiny stubble. I do think that i had another BV, which is being addressed, so could it have been that? We've been together 2 years and I don't know if he'd always shaved right before sex or when. If he didn't shave at all would the hair be an irritation? I know everyone is different and I may be more sensitive than others, but I was just wanting some input.
thanks

I'm not sure what you mean by "BV". If you're talking about some kind of infection, I can only tell you that you don't get infections from "irritation", you get them from a bacteria or a fungus.
It would be practically impossible to get any kind of soap or shaving gel inside your vagina, but if you did, it would only be a drop or two, and that wouldn't cause an infection, either.
As for the shaving, I don't know anyone who can SEE what they're doing..and it's got to be done by feel. The hair grows in different directions, and you have to shave in different directions, too. Personally, I've tried it, I hated it, and would never go thru that hassle again. There's no hygienic reason to do it. Very few men care one way or the other. Women have been natural for millions of years, and it's just a fad...and a waste of time.
I think that it's probably coincidence. Or perhaps its more likely to be the lack of, umm..., _ventilation_ during the day after you had shaved. Tight clothing and a lack of hair would make things a little more stuffy down there. They say that synthetic underwear is bad and cotton is good? That might be something that you need to consider. I doubt that the soap would have gone in far enough to cause any problems.
As for shaving? Yeah, it's done a bit by feel and practice makes perfect. Personally as a guy, I think that freshly shaven is great, but leave it for as little as 6 hours and the stubble is a problem. So my favourite is trimmed very short and shaved into shape and then trimmed and shaved along the edges of the labia so that there are no stray hairs in the way. DW does that and it's pretty low maintenance, rarely has red bumps and it's most of the benefits without the hassles. Those little battery operated beard trimmers are great.
Lots of warm water. Try the shavefoam or shave cream, not too much though. The Gillette MACH III razor is great - new blade. Gentle strokes WITH the direction of growth for the most part. Rinse with lukewarm water. Pat dry gently. Use a mild antiseptic cream (heard of teatree oil?) sparingly afterwards.
Your skin does get more used to it after a while too.
As for your b/f, unless the hair is very coarse I doubt it would irritate much and unless he's got thick hair right up the shaft to the head it's not really going to irritate inside you. As for the day it did irritate, he might need to shave a little higher or lower to avoid that.

According to a gyno that was on Oprah one day recently, the real "purpose" of pubic hair is to hold the pheremones.......a sexual attractant.
Unfortunately in this day and age, women think they have to smell like lilacs....NOT a sexual attractant.
Thanks
I do wear cotton. I also already shave except in certain areas. Beside my labia and on pubic bone is where I don't shave. I do the trimming thing though. So I may just keep that up, maybe keep better maintenance on everything.
His hair is about 1/4-1/2 inch up the shaft, maybe. He's always shaved so it's hard for me to tell.
So now that I've read all of these, I don't know if I'll shave or not. I'll talk to him and see what he thinks. I don't think it matters to me though. Except about the smell and lilacs... he prefers my scent so once I tell him that he may never want me to shave... anywhere.... ever again. :-)
I think the poster who said it takes practice and feel is exactly on the mark.
I actually think Bikini Zone is what I bought. I couldn't remember the name of it. It's a blueish gel and has little beads in it? I'm used to shaving some of my bikini area so I do still use it for that. And it is really good. Much better than regular shaving gel.
Doesn't waxing hurt really bad? Do you do that yourself or have it done somewhere? If you do it what do you use? I wax my eyebrows (well, I have it done) and ouch. I can see how waxing would make things much smoother and keep it that way for longer... but ouch.
Yep, sounds like Bikini Zone.
And about waxing - I have it done. I don't think there is any way I could do it myself. I just go to a salon & they do it. Make sure if you go for a waxing that you know exactly what you want, and you tell them specifically! LOL, I had a friend who recently decided to try it & she wanted basically a bikini wax, but didn't say so...she got a full Brazillian with no strip, and was mortified - even said, "I had no idea I had hair around my butt!! My God, you could have braided it." LMAO
Anyway, as for hurt - a little for a few minutes, but totally worth it to me.
Good idea. I could mention it I guess. But the other day I needed to shave my legs before he came over. I told him I needed to hop in the shower to drive slowly, unless he would like to shave my legs. Of course, I'm picturing this romantic bath and such, he said he was afraid he'd cut me or something. So I'm guessing he'd say the same about that as well.
