My husband and I have been together now for almost 4 years, and we have been married now for 7 months. I used to really like swallowing, but now it has a diffrent taste and it always gags me. I know he likes it when I do it for him. I tried putting candy in my mouth for the taste, I have tried edible oils, but nothing has worked for the taste. He has also tried diffrent foods. Any ideas on what we could do?

I know my DH's semen has a stronger taste in the morning when his testosterone level is highest. But then, I always spit anyway, since swallowing isn't turnon for him.

You might try keeping a can of Coke or other soft drink, on the nightstand so that you can dilute his semen. The carbonation seems to help with strong aftertastes.

Have you tried Altoids? Those things are the "curiously strong mint" that can kill any taste I've found.

But tell him to drink more water, at least 6-8 glasses a day and see if that helps. You'll notice that urine has a very strong odor if one is dehydrated so it makes sense that other bodily fluids might be affected as well.

OR, you can just stop swallowing. After all, it's done AFTER his pleasure so it's not really depriving him of anything.

I would also suggest stop swallowing since it does nothing to enhance the pleasure anyway, but

1) I couldn't say it anyway since many couples out there actually practice the swallowing event "during" the orgasm which incredibly enhances his pleasure sensation, and 2) it'd be nice not to deprive any partner (man OR woman) of the 'psychological' pleasure of sex as well if the partner so chooses to please.

Common rule of thumb is that whatever affects the urine will also affect the semen. As many doctors have pointed out, what you eat or drink affects your urine odor, such as higher consumptions of sodium and acids and spices. Hasparagus is VERY widely blamed for both urine odor and semen taste too. Toning it down significantly on these types of consumption and keeping well hydrated has been reported to work for many couples out there in your situation.

Also, many have even mentioned the benefits of consuming more apples/pineapples as well, but I always say experiment on your own regardless.

Thanks for the tips. And it doesn't bother me to swallow, it is just the taste of it. He never used to taste so strong. I will try the altoids though.

Pineapple juice..Have him drink pineapple juice for a week..Or, take a big swig of Dr.Pepper after you've swallowed..Its what I do when I swallow..Which is rare... and I'll share.

For the education of it, is there something that makes Dr. Pepper more effective than the rest, or is it just what you like best regardless?

Sorry I have to disagree, Jennie. My DH drinks fruit juices...orange, pineapple, apple, you name it, daily instead of coffee or tea, and has for years with no effect on the taste of his semen.

Because of this persistant theory, I asked my dr. a long time ago about the possibility and he confirmed that that's just not the case. Hormone levels affect our taste more than anything we consume. And we'd have to consume large quantities to affect our fluids to any significant degree, which would cause obvious problems ie. gas and loose bowels.

Now, onions, garlic, curry and other spices can come through the pores of the skin when eaten in large daily quantities, as we know but it doesn't seem to be the case with fruit or other veggies. Others have mentioned asparagus, but I've never noticed a foul smell to my urine after eating it.

My Dr. said he began hearing this pineapple theory several years ago when some men claimed that their ejaculate tasted sweet after consuming large amounts of the stuff and that because of that,it's become something of an urban legend. In his opinion, he thought it was just another case of guys trying to get a girl to do the deed.

His professional advice was that being well hydrated, avoiding alcohol and smoking, exercising daily and eating a balanced, healthy diet will go further to keeping bodily fluids mild, both in taste and smell. But hormone levels will affect bodily fluids, at certain times, regardless.

Now, having HER drink pineapple juice when she finishes him orally MIGHT help, who knows?

I didn't know you approved of having a doctor for yourself. Did I read that correctly??

Anyhow, in regards to your doc's point of view, "myth" or not, numerous claims just like these actually came as well anyway, even right here on IVillage, who actually claimed those very differences themselves. Even though I have my own opinions, I just prefer to keep points of view in mind anyway I guess.

We can only whether their claims were accurate or not, but I won't be the first to tell 'em they're crazy, lol, not me! ;D

Jenny

From my point of view (male)I would never want my wife / significant other to do anything she didnt enjoy, no matter how good it felt to me.

Have you considered letting him get to the "verge" then "finish" with you just using your hands? Or, let him do it on the "outside" of your mouth? (you can still be rubbing him with your closed lips). (I am really trying not to be graphic, honestly).

Also, is he even aware of how your feeling about it recently? He might have ideas of his own that may help.

Good luck..

Well, Para, not sure where you got that idea, so yes, I'm afraid you read incorrectly. I prefer female gynecologists, simply for the added comfort level, much as I'm sure men prefer male urologists....but no, I'm not against having male drs. for myself. In fact, the majority of the drs. I see are male.

And people are clearly entitled to believe whatever they wish about the subject but I wanted to offer one professional opinion since I dared to ask the question of my GP.
