So, I'm going to sound really clueless right now...

If I'm on birth control and my boyfriend and I have sex without a condom and he cums inside of me, is there a chance that I can get pregnant?

Yes.

If you take your birth control at the same time every day and never skip a pill, there's still a small chance that you can get pregnant. Especially in the first couple weeks of starting a new pack. I'd wear a condom anyhow just to protect against STDs unless you're sure that this is a long-term relationship. Remember, birth control pills do not protect against STDs..

If you're talking about b/c pills, there's little or no chance of getting pregnant unless you're not taking the pills correctly. The "failure" rate is about 2%, and that's due to human error in most cases.

The point of the pill is to stop ovulation. If you don't ovulate, you can't get pregnant. If you take the pill every day at the same time, all 28 of them, you won't ovulate. If there's no ovum being released, you can't get pregnant. That includes the time that you take the 7 placebo pills.

I don't know what the other poster meant by the first two weeks of a new pack. The only time you have to use condoms is the first month you start the prescription, or if you forget a pill, or take it 5-6 hours late. Always take them at the same time every day, within an hour. If you do that, you won't get pregnant. If you mess up taking one pill, then use condoms for the rest of that month's pills.

I personally recommend using only condoms instead of birth control pills because I have found that used correctly latex condoms are foolproof and my girlfriend and I have never bad problems with them breaking or anything. Recommend using Trojan Latex they are very reliable.

I said the first few weeks- meaning the first new month of starting BC..I was on Seasonale for awhile..I'd have to look for the packet insert to see what it says.

I think there is a lot of room for error, and all of the PP have repeated what they have been told, or believe to be true. That said, the only foolproof method is abstinance (and I am guessing that's not an option!! LOL), so...take them everyday at the same time, and if you are still nervous, use a condom.

Condoms can break, pills can be missed (or inactive with other meds), so if you are worried - double up!
