I think your feelings are completely justified. If you wanted to see naked bodies, you'd go to a strip club, not a gym. And you have every right to expect the rules to be followed. When you toured the place, did they give you a when they showed you the changing area and locker room? Probably not.
Does the gym have any private dressing rooms? If it does, I would go for that option. Even so, complain to the manager and see if they start enforcing the rules. If they don't, quit the place and demand a refund of the unused portion of your fee.
"On this note, I went to Amherst for college in the mid-90s and our dorm had a fully coed bathroom. I don't know if it was officially designated as such, but from the moment I moved into that dorm it was used that way. There were urinals and one big open shower area. I never minded taking showers in the same room as the men -- without my glasses I can't see very well anyway -- but I distinctly remember the disgusted feeling of walking into a bright fluorescent-lit bathroom at 7am to the sight of my male dormmates peeing. Yuck! Anyhow, I have to admit, it was really pretty low-key. After a few weeks, to my knowledge no one even cared -- I can't tell you how non-flirty the whole thing was ... it wasn't in the least."
I know every dorm on my college campus turned their bathroom and shower facilities into coed events too! In the first dorm I lived in (all girls), I had 2 very prudish roommates. I still LOL at the thought of one of them running back into the room one morning in SHOCK. She went on and on about it .... there was a guy in the bathroom, she continued to carry on. Finally, we asked "what was he doing?" Her reply: "brushing his teeth". ROFL...he was fully clothed, and it was a girls bathroom with stalls -- no showers!

Welcome to the board, tomba70.
I agree with everything Em said in the previous post. I don't think you're being a prude at all.

I think if it makes you the slightest bit uncomfortable you should certainly quit (and not allow them to keep any portion of your membership fee).
I've been going to a gym for many years and have been to different gyms but never was in one with co-ed shower/locker rooms.

Thanks for the advice.
Here is the problem. The gym is real close to home and very, very cheap.
I think you have shed some light here!
When I think of a co ed change room, I think buffed and bronzed bodies and overinflated egos
