Is it true that you could only get pregnant a couple of days out of the month? I know you get pregnant when you are ovulating and since you only ovulate for a couple of days a month does this mean that the rest of the month there is no way of getting pregnant?

Yes, it's true but you would have to know exactly when you're fertile days are.

Tish is correct. You can only get pregnant when the egg is fertilized by the sperm and that can only happen during a relatively short period during the women's cycle. There are birth control methods that take advantage of this and do work if the woman's cycle is fairly normal and if she is willing to do the work necessary to determine when she ovulates. It is not always the same day each month (My DW varies from about the 13th day to the 16th day). The woman and her partner both need to understand and be willing to follow the rules to use this method. If you have unprotected intercourse during the fertile time it won't necessarily result in pregnancy, but if you continue to not follow the rules, eventually you will conceive a child. These methods also have the advantage of predicting opportune times for intercourse if the couple is wanting to conceive.

Yes, it's true, you need to ovulate to get pregnant. If there's no egg for the sperm to fertilize, you won't get pregnant.

The problem with that is that very few women KNOW when they're ovulating. Theoretically, you have a 28 day cycle, and you would ovulate on the 14th day after the start of your last period. But that's THEORY. Some women have 30 day cycles, some women have 20 day cycles, some women have different cycles every month. Some women ovulate at the beginning of their cycle, and some at the end. Some women have even gotten pregnant DURING their cycle.

If you don't want to get pregnant, get on some form of birth control. Eventually, if you're not on some form of birth control, you will probably get pregnant, no matter how careful you are. Are you also aware that even if he "pulls out" before he ejaculates, you can still get pregnant from the pre-ejaculate that most men have, and even one drop will contain thousands of sperm. You can get pregnant if he ejaculates outside of you......even "virgins" have gotten pregnant!

Conversely, if you DO want to get pregnant, you have to have intercourse when you think you're ovulating. But, even if you are ovulating.....there is no guarantee that you WILL get pregnant. There are tests to know when you're ovulating, and for some women, their body temperature will tell them.

Also, without the use of condoms, you are leaving yourself wide open for STD's....unless he's a virgin, or he's been tested and has proof that he has no diseases. Men can have many diseases that have no symptoms, and you can't tell by looking, only by testing.

In all cases, better safe than sorry!
