Over on the **1,000 Nights of Great Sex** thread, we started a little "Pouters Club", and some of us have decided we should have a party tonight. (ETA: We now have our own clubhouse, and the party never ends! Everyone's invivted, so feel free to join in anytime!)

Kristi designed the mascot ....

DW is fine, but I need to lay out the full timeline for you for the full effect. The name of this little story is *Why My Daughter's Name is Hope*.

° The first thing you need to know is that there's a 9 year gap between our children, and that was by no means intentional. After trying without success for 7 years, though, we'd pretty much resigned ourselves to the fact that DS was likely to be an only child.

° In the summer of '99 I'd just started a new job, and moved back to MA after spending a year living and working in CO, and DW and I were in the process of reintegrating our households and getting used to living full time under the same roof again when we found out she was pregnant.

° A month later, at what was supposed to be a routine OB/GYN appointment, we found out that she'd miscarried.

° Having ridden the rollercoaster and experienced the high highs of finally having conceived again, followed by the low lows of miscarrying, we decided that we really wanted another child, and recognizing that we were dealing with a closing window of opportunity (DW turned 40 that year) we decided to seek fertility treatment.

° After 2 months of undergoing intra-uterine injections to stimulate her follicles, and having my semen deposited on her cervix artificially, DW became pregnant again.

° About 6 weeks later DW was experiencing a little difficulty breathing, so she called me up at work and asked me if I could pick DS up from after-school care, take him home and start making dinner while she went to the walk-in clinic at our hospital to double check that the inhaler she had was okay to use while pregnant.

° I pick up DS, go home and start making dinner, when I get a phone call from DW telling me that the reason she'd been having difficulty breathing is because she'd been walking around with a collapsed lung for the past 2 days, that they were admitting her to the hospital, and that DS and I needed to get down there NOW.

° While she's in the hospital they check her medical records and ask her if the UTI she'd had during the previous summer's pregnancy/miscarriage had been treated. This was the first time she'd heard anything about a UTI.

° They start her on antibiotics as a precautionary measure, and shortly after she started taking them she began experiencing a burning sensation while urinating.

° She discusses all this with her OB/GYN at her next monthly appointment, and finds out that she'd never had a UTI at all — it was a false positive test result. Since she was due to have an ultrasound performed at that appointment anyway he says that he'll also have a look at the urinary tract and kidney just to double check that everything is okay.

° The ultrasound reveals that one of her kidneys has a tumor attached to it that's roughly the size of a football.

° During the second trimester, DW undergoes surgery to have the kidney and tumor removed.

° In May of 2001, DW gave birth to a healthy baby girl.

° DW's urologist wass peer reviewing an article submitted for publication in a medical journal, and noticed that the article describes many symptoms that are common to DW's case, linked to a genetic syndrome.

° DW was referred to the National Cancer Institute in Bethesda to undergo tests to see if she has this syndrome, which it turns out she does.

° DW and her family were invited to take part in a study at the NCI to help isolate the genetic marker for this particular syndrome. As a result of their participation, there's now a test that can be performed on my children when they get old enough, to determine if they also inherited this syndrome.

° DD will turn 7 next summer.

Oh Liv, it got WORSE!!!! Hence, I'm sitting here at nearly 10pm, hubby snoring on the couch.

Second son isn't feeling well either :( and somehow I got something dropped in my lap to plan for tomorrow night. It's a long story, several phone calls, and even more to make me pout!

The good news, the crabs were delicious. The better news, I'm waking DH up for bed a bit later ;-)

Hmmm, Tish, Scooter, and pickles. The oral sex board. Boy, does that put my imagination to work, LOL. I might have to go on a little road trip over there myself.

WOW, Steve. I knew about DWs surgery during pregnancy, but I had never heard the whole story! What a great choice in a name for your daughter.

I have to officially resign from the board. I am no longer morally fit to serve out my term here. DW and I went shopping, as we had today off, and I surprised her with...

ok, another thread.

DW and I seem to be weekenders only. I don't seem to have the energy after work (until I come on here later and get "stimulated), and she goes to bed before 8:30. If we can do it 2x on the weekend it's good, I would prefer 4+, but the spirit is willing but the genitals are weak.
