lots of questions about shaving!!!

So my bf is very, very keen for me to shave... down there. I'm not entirely sure why, but the idea is kind of aversive to me. Although he seems to think most woman DO shave, I don't know anybody else who does!

So who's right: is it 'normal' to shave? That is, do most people do so? I totally get that whatever makes you happy is 'normal' and all, but is it 'the norm'?

Can anyone give me some first-hand experiences with shaving? How on earth do you even do it without cutting yourself (I assume you can't just use a normal razor)? How do you keep from getting in-grown hairs and isn't it itchy?

Last, is it totally selfish of me to not want to shave? It's not like I don't trim and keep things generally tidy, but he has mentioned it makes it less than fresh and that the hair chafes... for the record, he does shave himself and hasn't really pressured me, just has made his opinions known. I do want to be sure I'm game and willing to try things out, but somehow I just don't like the idea of it... is that unfair? Should I at least give it a go?

Sandi, I suspect your daughter will be giggling when she starts grooming herself. I'm pretty sure that I would have been bare had that been a trend when I was a teen. I always felt like I carried odors in that hair, and with all the hormone changes that occur in those years, the discharge, wearing pads during my period, etc., I think it would have made a difference.

Of course, my mom would have died if she ever found out I did that sort of thing. LOL, she constantly harped on me to be sure I never shaved above my knee, or plucked the tops of my eyebrows, swearing either would make the hair grow in thicker.

I first started to shave so that nothing showed when I wore my bikini. When I first started to have sex with my hubby when we were dating, he wore a condom. It was very uncomfortable for him to remove the condom after sex because his pubic hairs would get all catch up in the roll of the condom, so he started to shave. Also he felt sorry for me when I did a BJ on him because I was always picking hairs out of my mouth. I love oral sex and I also felt bad for my hubby because he also had

lol Misty...it is so true, for sure I would have been bare as a teen...of course explaining all the need for all the razors would have been difficult...but it would have been alot cleaner..imho...well I just hope it didn't scar DD too badly, she isn't too prudish however, so I suspect she probibly told her friends and they all had a good laugh...omg..I never really thought about her telling her friends until now....gee now how will I look at them again...ha,ha...

LOL, you'll be reading their faces, wondering if that grin was "because they know". Stand strong, grin back ;-)

I tried the new shaver called Innovation, its awesome, it has a hard cream base with a moisturizer and soap mixed in one surrounding the blade itself, I used it and wow, its so smooth, and no need to worry about any nicks or cuts, as it works really well.

Well, personally, from age 12 until probably early 19, I shaved "religiously".

Is it normal? ----

It depends on who or what you believe. Bostonsteve recently did a survey on MHM about grooming. In this survey 275 people responded and over 80%

I never knew from shaving anything but my legs and underarms, and the sides of the bikini area during the summer swimsuit season. But I learned a lot from my DD's about what the fashion is today, and that seems to be partial or total removal of the pubic hair. It seems that it started as a fad by a few adventurous kids, and then the word spread on the internet, and then, as my youngest DD who is 13 says, "you've got to at least try it so when a BFF asks about it you don't look stupid. So that piqued my curiosity and I tried it. I couldn't let my 13 year old have one experience on me that I haven't tried. WOW, I've go to admit, the DH went nuts when I surprised him. I got oral I hadn't experienced ever. Now I am a complete convert. I am truly and completely hairless from the neck down. I know it's a chore, but well worth it. I just hope the younger generation is not doing it because of sex.
