What type of lube is best? I looked at K-Y and saw liquid, gel, and jelly. Are there advantages/disadvantages to one over another?

Everyone likes different kinds, that's why they make different kinds. None of them are that expensive, try them and see which kind YOU like.

KY sometimes offers free samples on their website, maybe the other ones do too.

As far as KY goes I thought that the gel and jelly were the same; I prefer the plain liquid. The gel dries out too much and gets gloopy and very sticky. The liquid is better. Personally we've just discovered silicone based lubes and find them quite enjoyable - they're "silkier" than water based lubes and last longer. Not sure if they're compatible with condoms though.

You can also use vaseline or baby oil. Baby oil is very slick tho.

YOu NEVER use vaseline or baby oil for sexual lubrication!!! Anything petroleum based cannot be washed out of the vagina by natural lubrication, and can lead to nasty infections. If you're using condoms, petroleum based products will destroy a condom! It can actually disolve the latex!

For sexual lubrication, you use products MEANT for that purpose.

We don't like KY either...dries out very quickly.

We use Astroglide and its the best we've used thus far.

My DH and I have been married for 24 years and I have never had any problems with vaseline or baby oil. I've never had any kind of infections or rashes from them.

I'm glad that you haven't but ask your gynecologist if you should be using Vaseline or baby oil as sexual lubricants though. I doubt he or she will say that it's okay to continue.

Vaseline can mask other problems and build up on the vaginal walls over time. Water-based products designed for sexual activity, like KY, Astroglide etc., are always recommended because they mimic natural lubrication more closely and wash away easily.

And that's why dr.s only use KY in their examinations as well.

Yes, I've always heard not to use vaseline or baby oil - both for the sake of infection and it breaks down condoms.
Thanks for the tips!
