men and UTI?

One of the threads prompted this question. I recently broke up with my ex after we briefly reconnected. Reconnecting actually only confirmed that we weren't meant to be togehter, but that's beside the point. When we'd met up again, he told me about the crappy month that he'd had, which included getting a UTI. He said he was totally puzzled because he didn't think men got this, and then jokingly said that I must have given it to him (though it probably crossed his mind). I'm really ignorant, but is this something that gets transmitted from person to person? I've never had one, by the way.
Anyway, he was a big baby about it, though that's not the reason why I decided to break up with him once and for all. It certainly didn't help.

No, a UTI isn't a sexually transmitted disease. So a woman can't pass a UTI onto her partner. He got it all by himself. Probably from not consuming enough water.
While it's true that women are more prone to UTI's but only because bacteria can be easily pushed into the urethra during intercourse. Preventing that is simple though. Just be sure and urinate after intercourse.
And tell him.....of course, men can get them, too. They have kidneys, bladders and urethras, heck, a whole urinary tract just like women do! LOL!
Sounds like you made the right choice to cut this crybaby loose for good.

Just to add my 2 cents (and a biological perspective), while UTIs are not sexually transmitted, sex can lead to UTIs. What differentiates that from a sexually transmitted infection is that you can also get a UTI from other things - or just randomly. UTIs are caused by an overgrowth of bacteria somewhere in the urinary tract (urethra, ureters, bladder, kidneys). Sex can push bacteria (that is naturally on our bodies) into the urethra, where it can travel to other parts of the urinary tract and flourish. However, wiping back to front can also cause this..as well as many other things.
The bottom line is that no one "gives" another person a UTI. We all have naturally occurring bacteria in and on our bodies - but sometimes when the wrong type of bacteria gets into a body system it's not supposed to be in - it causes a problem. Hope that helps clarify.
Not to take your ex's side on this, but does a sore throat hurt when you have a cold, a little now think about an ear ache/ infection those really hurt some people. I had a UTI once and once I felt better called to ask the Doc why, why me, and why it hurt so bad. He said a man's urinary tracy flows near our prostrate, penis, testicals as well as the parts we both have in common. I understand for women it is a little unpleasant, burning, etc. When I had mine, it felt like I was racked every few minutes, the urine test said it was not a kidney stone, so that left a UTI. As for if you gave if to him or not, probally not, but people give a loved one a cold/flu and that is a type of an infection, but I'd still say probally not. That whole tract has its own balance of bacteria (think yogurt), it gets off balance by drinking too much soda, not enough water, too tight of clothes, stress, who knows it just happens but mostly to women, and did you give it to him, if it makes you feel better to cause your ex some pain sure, if not, probally not.
PS I see no need in getting yourself tested for anything -- at least not realated to this, it is not an STD.
