My wife and Vampires

I sure some of you are thinking 'WTF' after reading my discussion title. It was the best way to get your attention.

First, a little background: I'm a 45-year-old male in a Southern city. My wife is 44, but she looks at least 10 years younger. We've been married 22 years, and we feel like we have a strong marriage. We have two kids in their older teens.

My wife is a dedicated bookreader - especially romance novels. She goes through at least two a week. She also science fiction. In the past few months, I noticed that her books had a common theme - vampires. I scanned through a few of those books, and they are very erotic - especially those written by Laurell K. Hamilton.

I'm not jealous or upset that she's reading these books. She can read anything she wants. I'm simply trying to understand the attraction my wife and other women have for vampires. I'd like to know more about it, and maybe I could incorporate that theme into future lovemaking sessions - well, something besides dressing up like vampire. (haha). Believe me, at 5-foot-8 and 225 pounds with a "beer gut," I don't think I'd be the ideal vampire. I get the feeling my wife likes those who are who's tall with dark hair and are physically fit.

I do know she likes being kissed and nibbled on down her neck - as if a vampire was going to take a bite out of her - by someone dancing or standing very close behind her. I saw this last year when she danced with another guy in a New Orleans club. I stepped outside to catch my breath after a few dances, and when I walked back into the club some handsome Latino guy had moved in and was dancing very closely behind my wife, kissing down her neck. Her right arm pulled back and with her right hand guided his head down her neck. She had never done this with me. After this went on for an hour on the floor, they took a break and I caught her attention to let her know I was back and she resumed dancing with me. I wasn't upset with her, just wondering what she was willing to do.

I'd like to hear your ideas and suggestions about how I can help make her passion for vampires a part of our sexual play and even enhance it. Or maybe should I just leave it alone and let her enjoy it by herself ... or with someone else?

I have no idea why some people are fascinated by vampires or why they would find vampires erotic.

You should ask your wife about it, what she would like you to do and

Hi and welcome rush. It's nice to meet you. Stick around and jump in anytime. The people here are wonderful.

I, too, am an avid bookreader. I love romances, especially historical one. I know for me it just takes me to a special place. It's all the things I don't have. I sometimes read time-travel romance.

Welcome to the board, Rush.

I don't have a clue why women are fascinated with vampires in a sexual way, but I know many are. I think it would be fun for you to fulfill some of your DWs fantasies if she does have this interest, but I think you should go about discovering it in a gentle way. It may be something that she enjoys as a fantasy, and if she thinks you're aware of it, it might make her uncomfortable.

Maybe the next time she's reading one of those type of books, you could jokingly ask her if she has a thing for vampires .... or you could plan a date night with a vampire movie and see if you can feel her out that way.

Normally, I'm all about asking up front questions, but sometimes people need to have their own fantasies, and share them on their own terms, kwim?

I appreciate the replies and the welcomes to the board. ... I read your responses as they were coming in last night, but I was at work and had to keep telling myself "focus on work, focus on work." After a few hours of sleep and sending DW off to work with lots of kisses, I have time to reply.

As always, DW's morning ritual includes book reading. I didn't want to appear nosy and demand if what she was reading was a vampire book,

I don't think anyone else has suggested this - why don't you read one or two of the same ones she has read yourself, and maybe find out firsthand what the details and the story lines are? I don't think you mentioned that you had read any of them. Find out for yourself what the sexual or erotic element in them is.

Hi there, rush! I just wanted to let you know that I completely understand your DW's fascination with vampires. I don't read that many romances with vampire heroes (though I have been reading romances since I was a teenager in the 70s), because I write my own erotic stories with vampire heroes and heroines. Well, actually, Master and I write the stories together and He has the vampire heroes and I have the vampire heroines. I just feel that the romance market has been glutted with vampire stories, so I tend to shy away from most of them.

Vampires have been erotic long, long before Anne Rice. Have you ever read the original Dracula by Bram Stoker? I recently reread it and then I realized just how much sex was in that book (though Stoker denied putting any sex in the book. But you know how naughty those Voctorians were!). There is a scene that sticks out in my mind where Mina and Jonathan are in the bed together. Dracula comes into the room and takes possession of Mina, while Jonathan sleeps away. And the description that Stoker gives is that yes, Dracula is using his mouth on
