Natural lubrication?

I've found lately that I'm not producing as much natural lubrication as I used to, and it's starting to go to my head. I really doubt it's because of my age too. I'm 21, my boyfriend is 22, and we have awesome sex and he really turns me on, but lately i just haven't been getting as wet. We use lube fairly often and that works fine, but I know it turns him on when I get really wet and I fear that he's thinking it's because I'm not turned on. Even when I masturbate lately, I only get a little bit wet. Any ideas?

YOu can drive yourself crazy worrying about what HE's thinking. If he knows anything about the female body, he knows it has nothing to do with him. Lubrication, or the lack of it has nothing to do with "feelings". Your hormones could be fluctuating for some reason. It could actually be because you're worried about it. The more you think about it, the longer it goes on.

Have you had a gyno visit lately? If not, make an appt. and tell the doc about it, and your hormone levels can be checked.

As long as the lube works.....use it.

A lot of things can cause you to not lubricate well. I was having problems recently, and noticed a big change when I quit smoking. Things like medications, birth control, caffeine, and alcohol can have an affect as well.

Can you think of any changes in the recent past that might have contributed to this?

It is nothing unusual for a woman to be dry. It often has to do with the estrogen in your body. It may only be temporary. Also there is a lubricant called Replens (may be spelled wrong) which you use once and it keeps you moist for 3 days. Call your gyn and ask them. If it hasn't been long since your last visit the nurse will sometimes talk to you and help you out. Good Luck

Alcohol consumption can contribute to dehydration. iVillage has several articles that refer to this, but they are on the Total Health channel. (A separate log in required.) Maybe experiment and see if alcohol could be contributing to the problems you are having.

Here are some of the highlights when I searched alcohol dehydration:

"Limit intake of sodium, caffeine and alcohol. Foods and beverages containing high amounts of salt can draw water out of body cells to dilute high levels of salt in the mouth and gastrointestinal tract. The more sodium that is ingested, the higher the risk of mild dehydration. Caffeine has a diuretic effect, increasing urination above normal levels and contributing to the loss of excess fluids from the body. Alcohol interferes with the body’s ability to absorb water through the gastrointestinal tract."

"Avoiding excessive amounts of alcohol. Drinking large amounts of alcohol can lead to increased urination (polyuria) and dehydration."

"Dehydration and electrolyte imbalance. Alcohol promotes urination by inhibiting the release of the brain hormone that normally protects against dehydration."

If you want to read any of the articles, here are the links:
