It has been a looong time since I have shaved my private parts for my man(or for myself), partly because when I do, it hurts!

My favorite tip is to use Balmex diaper ointment rash on the skin after you've shaved. It prevents the ingrown hairs, painful bumps and keeps the skin super soft! Once I get out of the shower I towel dry then apply the balmex. But be sure there won't be any oral sex within the first couple hours after that cuz there's a little smell/taste to that stuff that I can't imagine would be very pleasant!

Shaving regularly (every other day or every third day) helps keep it from hurting so much and the hairs gradually get softer so they aren't as prone to becoming ingrown. I know KC suggested using the Balmex but I have also found that using Skintimate's After Shave Gel also helps increase the smoothness and keeps ingrown hairs from appearing as well. My only precaution is to be careful not to rub it 'in' your vagina - make sure you only rub it on the vulva otherwise it can cause a nasty yeast infection. Check out www.the-clitoris.com for their detials on shaving. Worked great for me!

Ouch! Forget that Brazilian wax!! Go get yourself a good electric shaver that will remove the hair down to a soft stubble... This way you are not shaving it off completely so you won't get bumps and ingrown hairs...

I have very light, thin, red hair....all over. I shave a bikini line, or at least my BF (live in) does. It's been kind of a thing for us, for him to shave me. He can see better there, and is much more carefull about it really than I am. I have very sensitive light skin, and I need to shave only once a week or two, to keep it smooth. My problem is that shaveing, irritates my skin, and I find little that will sooth the day-after burn. AT one time, I shaved more often, and it burned less...but I really have little need to shave very often.

1) DO NOT use electric shavers down there. You've been warned!

2) Once you do start and get comfortable with it, try to keep up with it at least every 2-3 days. This helps keep the micro hairs from becoming too thick again and helps prevent ingrowing.

3) I used the same type of shaving gel that I use when shaving my face. Seemed to help me anyway.

4) PLEASE make sure your razor is as sharp as new if you can help it. You want to cut, not pull. Ouch!

5) The bumpies and itchies everyone complains about are COMPLETELY non-existant when I shave because I brave the techinque of doing so with cool to actually cold water. Won't go into the scientific/physiological detail of why/how it works...but it DOES work and many across the internet absolutely swear by it. In fact, the number of times that I've actually knicked myself, the cold water rinsing stopped the bleeding cold (pun or not, its true). I usually start with lukewarm to cool so I prepare for the pain of the cool to cold as I finish. Yep, I only shave while showering.

6) Midas Touch 8000. Whew! You've GOT to look that one up...self explanatory.

MANY sources on this subject across the internet, so keep using your search engine on pubic shaving. Good luck.
