My fiance, who is a recovering alcoholic, has not been able to keep an erection long enough to have intercourse, since he stopped drinking. Has anyone ever heard of this happening before?

If he's an alcoholic......it's because he was dependent on alcohol to raise his self-esteem, or make himself feel less insecure. Now that he doesn't have that "crutch" to rely on....it's affecting his erections, which are as much mental as physical.

It's great that he stopped drinking, but maybe he needs to try to figure out why he drank in the first place.....and work on THAT.

Also, depending on his age and general health, he might be on some medications that interfere with erections, too. Blood Pressure meds will do it, as will antidepressants.

Whatever it might be, he should see his doctor, preferably an Urologist.....and get the physical part of it checked out. If it's not physical....then it's mental/emotional.

I don't know enough to know what is causing it, but I'm not terribly surprised to hear this. Alcohol dependancy really screws a person's system up so going off it is likely to make the body do some funny things too. It's really something that a Doctor whould help with and supervise I think.
