I need advice!! I had sex with my boyfriend yesterday morning, we used a condom because I am on ammoxicillan (the antibiotic). Long story short, afterwards, he couldnt find the condom! I checked quickly inside me and couldn't find it. We just figured it was on the floor somewhere etc. This morning I felt something and it turns out it was the condom that was now in my underwear! I am really worried because I am on antibiotics and am wondering if I could be pregnant since the condom was inside me. Also, could I have an infection? I have been taking my birth control anyways but I still dont know what I should do?! HELP!! I forgot to mention that I dont think he came because we had to stop suddenly because someone was at the door.

There is a "chance" that antibiotics can affect the birth control....but that chance is small. And you're correct to continue taking the pill....you don't stop just because you're on antibiotics.

I don't understand, what kind of infection are you talking about? From having the condom inside you overnight? No, you won't get an infection from that, it's no different than having a tampon inside you overnight.....besides, you're ON antibiotics aren't you? Whatever you're taking it for, most of them will kill off any foreign bacteria in your body.......which is why many women get yeast infections from taking antibiotics.

If you're that concerned, call your doctor, and ask about the "morning after" pill. You have 72 hours to take it.

First of all, don't panic. Although everything seems to have gone wrong for you, you still have a few days up your sleeve.

Because of the various things that have happened - from the condom coming off to the anitbiotics you were taking, the best thing for you to do is to assume that you are at risk of becoming pregnant. Even if he didn't ejeculate inside you or inside the condom, there is a tiny risk that some sperm may have been present before his orgasm. We just can't say for sure whether or not you might or might not be at risk of getting pregnant.

The safest thing for you to do is to go to the Doctor or a Family Planning Centre and get the emergency contraceptive pill. This is effective up to a maximum of 72 hours after intercourse so you have three days up your sleeve to sort this out. However, the sooner you get to take it the better it is, so make an appointment and get yourself to a Doctor either today or tomorrow. You may have to mention to the receptionist that you are requesting the emergency contraceptive pill so that they give you an immediate appointment.

I'm not sure what you meant about a risk of an infection. Do you mean that because the condom came off his bare penis may have passed on an STD? If that's what you mean, then Yes, there is a possibility. Ask your Doctor about this, but some infections and STD's don't show up for days or even weeks so you may need to be tested later. It may be a good idea to have your b/f tested because anything he has will have shown up by now and you won't have to wait for his test.

Starlight, contact your the Urgent Care Dept. of your doctor's office, if they have one, or whatever the equivalent is of the dept. that handles urgent but non "threatening" emergencies and ask about testing and also about whats called The Morning After Pill and make certain they know every detail of what you just posted here.

We could tell you what WE think, but it won't help you avoid situations if any result, so trust your doctor's office, and good luck to you.

I'm going to take a slightly different angle to the other posters - at least to your initial reaction.

As far as I'm aware, amoxicillan isn't contraindicated with the pill. At least, I took it quite a number of times while on the pill and was never once warned that I need extra birth control.

If I were you, I'd check with my Pharmacist and see if amoxicillan is likely to interfere with the pill (assuming that your doctor didn't already warn you). *if* he says that it's contraindicated, then see your doctor ASAP - as the other posters suggested.
