Hi, I've never posted on this board before, but I thought this was appropriate for this board.
Scientific studies seemed to have more objectivity in determining the average length of a man's penis.

That's statistics for you. It depends on who compiles the numbers, the group that was surveyed as well as the size of that group, and what the publisher is trying to prove. Statistics can be skewed any way you want them to be!
And of course penile size is a frequent topic of conversation here, and the vast majority(my own "statistics") of women really don't care that much about it. All they require is that it works, and it's attached to someone they care about, and he knows what to do with it, as well as all the other "tools" he has to make them happy.
Also, what does "average" mean? It means it's a number in the middle of the scale....and half of the men studied are smaller, and the other half is bigger. Probably very few are "average".
If I were to survey 100 men......and more of them were larger, that would raise the average.....and if more were smaller, it would lower the average. All you'd have to do is find 10 or 15 different men, and you'd have a different average.
The people who conducted the survey were doctors so I am sure they know the fundamental theories behind statistics, so if it was performed correctly, and I am sure it was, they can eliminate biases in the population if they should chose disporporationality number of large or small men.
Out of the only six men that I had sex with(including DH) in a span of 4 years, two were WELL above average. That's 33%. Ah....statistics...I just don't think it was a "freak" thing. ;-)

I asked my urologist about this a few weeks ago and he referred me to the scientific studies you are talking about. They've actually been done by doctors in alot of countries around the world. Urologists did the first US study in 1942 and it included males of all ages so that penis size norms could be determined for all guys from newborns to adults. The mean average for US adults was found to be 5.2" long with a standard deviation of just over half an inch. The validity of this data has been confirmed by recent urologist measured surveys as well. Knowing this I'm amazed at the number of ladies here who claim their bf or DH is 7, 8, 9, even 10" long. It begs the question: Do we have a large number of ladies here whose guys are really that large OR are ladies not so good at estimating a guy's size?
>>OR are ladies not so good at estimating a guy's size?<<
ROTFL Ain't that the truth! I'm hopeless at flash photography because I'm so spatially challenged. Though I have learned to do a damn good reverse park over the years.
To the O/P, apparently humans also tend to over estimate their height and under estimate their weight. And I will happily confess to having been a little optimistic with both over the years ;-)
Never fibbed about my age though.

age 37, height 5'8 and 132lbs ;-)
maybe it's both, but I am leaning toward women don't have a good estimate at guessing a their man's size. hehehehe.

That's one thing I have never done, why lie about your height , age or weight, I've always told people how much I weighed how tall I am and definately my age age, considering most people think I am 18 years old. Last year I went to get my hair done, I was talking about going on vacation with my husband, and I mentioned I had three kids. The lady was obviously not listening to me because she asked me how old I was, at the time I was 27, she said you're 27?! She said I thought you were 16! I was no like no, I said how is it possible for me to be 16, be married going to Bermuda, and having a 6, 3 and 1 year old? she appologized and got very emabarssed.
So my age is 28, I am 5'1 and I weigh 127lbs.

Women aren't very good at estimating the size of a man's penis though....
