  • On a contiuum from straight to gay with lots of room in the middle

You will be able to change your vote.

I voted for straight or gay, no middle ground. I think you're gay, straight or confused/unsure.

So what about all those people who insist they don't clearly fit into one category or the other?

I voted "on the continuum". But I don't think it's as simple as that. I'm inclined to think that you're either "gay, straight, or confused, or have some interest". I think that it's more like a few steps rather than a whole continuum like a sliding scale.

Of those that have an interest (that are "bi") I think that they are probably straight but have a more "relaxed" or "flexible" personal view of homosexuality rather than some actual physiological or biological desire/attraction to have homosexual sex.

I believe I mentioned "unsure or confused" didn't I? Elton John is a great example of that. He dated women when he was young, he even married once but he's now married to a man. He has said that he was confused for most of his life but once he began admitting his true desire, he committed to it and came out.

My younger brother was molested by a male when he was very young and that has caused confusion and emotional turmoil throughout his life but I truly believe that he has come to the conclusion that he is gay but continues resisting that idea. He has never found happiness with a woman.

Hpw do you explain bisexuals who have no confusion, but are simply attracted to both men and women? Have you ever visited the bisexual board?

I don't. I don't need to. I'm sure that there are many reasons why people might embrace the bisexual lifestyle though.

And no, I haven't visited that board. Why would I if I am not personally bisexual, have someone in my family who is or curious about the lifestyle?

Do you visit the Sewing and Needlework Board?

But I don't explain those people who say they are not confused because I don't have or need to. I think NOT making a decision CAN be a decision though. But it has nothing to do with my life or experience as a woman, so I don't delve quite so deeply into the subject.

If you are bisexual, it's your choice to identify yourself that way and I understand your desire to learn more about it. But it certainly doesn't matter what I believe about it. I have no judgement about it one way or the other.

I think I'm the type that believes people out there CAN be bi, despite the options of hetero or homo. This probably goes back to the 'definition' of bi though. Just an inexperienced guess.

By what I've read across different boards over time, bi has been used to describe those that don't care either way, really. They are the ones who don't have a preference either way depending on what they were in the mood for at the time. Gay would suggest of a preference toward homosexuality as opposed to enjoying "both" though, wouldn't it? Note: I don't know the answer to this, thats why I'm humbly asking. ;)

Anyway, thats the difference I noticed while reading. Ready to learn as always though.

If bisexuality is your preference, then you have embraced it as a lifestyle. You can define it and yourself however you choose. It's your right to do so.

I have always defined myself as a heterosexual. Whether you or the experts believe that true heterosexuals exist or not doesn't change that for me. That is my reality. So, why would I begrudge you your identity choice?

And yes, I CAN offer a personal opinion based on my personal knowledge and experience of any given subject, however limited or extensive it may be. We all can and do on this board. There are few if any experts here, that I'm aware of. We're only "experts" when it pertains to our own lives.

And I never said that bisexuals don't exist. I said that true bisexuals are probably not common. That's my opinion. Doesn't matter whether we agree on it or not though.
