Porn vs. Vibrator

Can watching porn be compared to using a vibrator? On these boards, there are numerous women that complain about their BF/DH watching porn or reading Playboy.

Men are assisted with visual stimulation while masturbating. Women are assisted with a vibrator while masturbating. Both genders are using "something" to assist them. Sure, men can maturbate without visual stimulation, but women can also masturbate using only their fingers. Both porn and a vibrator simply enhance the masturbation session. Women say that they cannot compare with a model in porn or a magazine. But men can say they cannot compare with a vibrator that that results in having a great orgasm.

So can an aurgument be made that men are using porn much in the same way as women use a vibrator? Since men are visually stimulated in a way that most women are not, why is it ok for women to have "assistance" in having an orgasm while men are not allowed to have the "assistance" they need?

This is all with the assumption that neither porn or a vibrator take away from your sex life as a couple.

My opinion, I find nothing wrong with either one of them.

I personally don't have any issues with either of them, but I always thought that a better comparison to porn would be fantasy...most women fantasize during masturbation so they can relate to it to better understand what the excitement of porn is. That's why I can never understand the statement "men are more visual than women" because that's really not correct. Fantasy is a vision as well, only it takes place inside the head.;-) I don't think I've EVER masturbated without some type of fantasy....and that's an immense amount of visuals. I also get very aroused from porn, but I don't need it because my fantasies are just as exciting. tee hee I just think that men are lazy and prefer hard(no pun intended) copy. ;-)

I don't agree with that assessment. Female anatomy is just too different from men when it comes to the genitals.

Men do not REQUIRE porn to get off, it may make solo sex more fun but it's not required. I have met many women who just could not orgasm without the stimulation provided by a vibrator. The clitoris and penis are just too different.

I think it all depends on the couple in question and how each views these "aids." For instance, I don't use internal stimulation for masturbation, never have. I don't use dildos or any kind of penetrative sex toy. My DH is my only "internal stimulation." When I self stimulate alone, it's with a vibrator for clitoral stimulation.

So, it could be argued that I'm not doing something for myself that my DH could very well provide for me. But he simply cannot replicate those vibrations. And not all women like or enjoy vibrators either and DO use their fingers for self stimulation.

However, most men do respond to porn, even if they rarely ever seek it out. Looking at porn is essentially using another woman's naked body for visual stimulation which of course, a man COULD get from his spouse.

But as long as a couple is okay with whatever aids are used, then there is no issue. It's definitely a subject that needs to be discussed, though, preferably BEFORE marriage!

The two are absolutely comparable. Used properly, they can add spice and variety to a good relationship and help one or both partners be more sexually satisfied. Used improperly, they can interfere with or destroy a good sexual relationship. Its up to each couple to decide what proper and improper are for them.

I would agree. Fantasy can accomplish the same thing, as Rain pointed out.

Are you saying that prior to the invention of the vibrator, women did not orgasm through masturbation ???? In both sexes orgasm resulting from self masturbation is more a factor of what the brain wants, than than what happenes below the waistline....
