Alrighty, folks. I'm at 30w2d in the pregnancy and still enjoying sex..Which is what got me pregnant anyway..But, the question is...Can a totally rocking orgasm bring on labor? And can semen induce labor? I read somewhere that it could..So, does that mean from this point on I should avoid allowing DH leave a deposit after sex or is it ok up until the 9th month for him to do so? Can someone put these to rest for me?

Thanks to you, I think I've suddenly changed my mind about childbirth. If I dig around long enough, I'm sure I can find the receipt for this one somewhere. You changed my mind with the "hours and hours" part. You could let the naive pregnant woman believe that I feel a contraction, my water breaks, and hey! there's a baby. Nope, you've burst my bubble. I feel so empty w/o my bubble. *L*

But it's not necessarily hours and hours of terrible pain. DS was a 16 hour labour, and we spent the first 10 hours at home. We went to the hospital mainly because we were a bit bored hanging around at home and wanted to find out what was going on.

The next three hours were busier, but I had lots of my DH's family with me and we all ate cake and kept each other company. I had to eat between contractions - it's kinda weird eating almost naked when your whole family is dressed LOL. You see, it was a hot day, and despite the air conditioning, I was too hot to use spas or showers for pain relief so I simply took off my clothes to try and keep cool. My waters had sprung a SLOW leak and all I was wearing were some knickers with a big, fat incontinance pad stuck in them. So glamorous!

It wasn't till the last three hours that things really got tough. By then, I just withdrew into myself and ignored all the surrounding people. The pain was like waves. I rode them - then went back into an almost meditative state until the next one.

DD (baby #2) was only a 3 hour labour, and much more brutal. With a quick labour, you don't get to 'warm up' slowly. It's like doing a marathon without stretching your muscles first. I remember going through transition and pleading for an epidural. The midwife just laughed and said "you're going to have a baby in 10 minutes". Needless to say, my support team didn't make it in time.

Ah, I have such fond memories of birth. Truly!! I'd do it again tomorrow, except I really don't want more kids ;-)

I had two easy deliveries. My first was delivered from start to finish in 4 hours. My second in three. Both deliveries began with my water breaking(all at once in a great gush). Don't worry yourself. You'll be just fine.

My mom has had five of us, so she told me its not that bad. She said with my oldest brother, it was five hours. My second brother she said was just a couple hours. She said with me it was twenty minutes. She said she didn't even know she was in labor till her water broke and there I was. I feel great. With my sisters, I can vaguely remember it being a long process. My youngest sister, my mom was in labor all morning and had her at like 3 in the afternoon. I was 8 at the time, what did I care? *LOL*

Well, as long as I can still have sex..

I do not know where you got your information but it is wrong. Provided you are healthy and the pregancy is normal I do not see why seamen or an orgasm would induce labour. As you get further along in your pregancy you might sex more uncomfortable or a change in interest. However you can have sex right up to the time you go into labour.

There are minute amounts of natural chemicals in semen that can trigger contractions. Orgasm can do the same, since it basically is uterine contractions, the same as labor. Nipple stimulation can do it too. But you are right in that during a normal pregnancy, there isn't any risk. And the last few weeks are when the risk is lowest since even if labor does start, it's not premature.

Exactly. Mine were 27 and 36 hour labors, but much of that was spent at home, eating, watching TV, even dozing off and on. With DS#2, I had taken DS#1 to daycare that morning after I called out of work, so I could rest a little during the day. I picked him up later that afternoon, we went and got videos and pizza for him. When the clerk said "You look like you're ready to have that baby any day now." I said "Well, actually I've been in labor all day!" She looked frantic, like I was going to have him right then and there, lol.
