Welcome to the board, soshemo.

I have walked that walk of dropping the kids of for their first venture alone, with friends. It does get easier with each child. Your 14yo daughter will be the "teacher" for you, by the time you get to the fourth, you'll likely be begging them to find somewhere to go, lol.

Good for you on getting away this week too! That's an awesome deal you get each year.

"My favorite thing to do is to light a candle, turn off the lights, pour a glass of wine, put a holiday CD in the player, lay on the sofa and just let it sink in...let my Christmas spirit emerge. LOL."

I very much enjoy doing this by the light of the tree. I'm not there yet either, it will be a couple of weeks, at least.

I have a friend that always waits until Christmas Eve to do all of her wrapping, after the kids go to bed. For the life of me, I don't know how she does it!

I usually take a couple of hours at a time for a couple of days, lock myself in my room, and do all of my wrapping. I hate it, and my back is always killing me by the time I'm done!

So will your hubby be there to provide back rubs when you're done wrapping, Misty?

Oh, that would be nice! I think I'll add that to his 'to do' list this year, lol.

For many years, this wrapping was done in one day, and his job was to take the children far away and entertain them for the day. I'm sure during those times, it was a toss up as to who was the most exhausted at the end of the day.

You know, I spent many years planning just such days out with my kids, so DW could take her *mom* hat off for a while. She finally told me that she'd prefer it if I came up with plans for things we could all do as a family instead.

I enjoy both -- the mom time and the family time. The family time definitely wouldn't have worked for gift wrapping though, lol.
