Sex and Period

So, this weekend will be the first time my new guy and I have sex. Here's my thing: I had planned this trip so that I wouldn't have my period while on vacation, but I was late (very stressed out at work!) and ended up getting my period this week, but thankfully it's almost gone. I know he's really into giving oral, but that is not going to happen if I'm spotting. Do guys even care if a girl is on their period when they have sex?

DW and I never let her period prevent sex. I've done oral during that "period" of the month as well as straight IC. Never was a problem, we're past that now for good.

It's relative to the 2 people involved. I saw a woman on Oprah who said that she's the most amourous during her period. Some men/women who post here have no problems with it.
I've found IC to be very uncomfortable during my period, sometimes extremely painfull so we have to obstain. DH prefers it to because he gets faint at the sight of blood. He always passes out when he sees his own blood and if he doesn't get away fast enough, he has passes out seeing others bleed too!

It depends on what guy your talking about, some guys want no part of it, some are turned-off by it, some it doesn't bother at all.

That's funny. I'm that way too! I hate blood! I don't mind having IC when I'm on it, I prefer not too, but since my bf and I haven't discussed it, I don't know what his feelings are on the subject or even how to bring it up. I guess I'll find out this weekend though.

Welcome to the board diana. It really does depend on the guy. I would suspect that if you are at the end with just light spotting that it probably won't bother him at all to have intercourse. I have always been uncomfortable with oral during my period. DH doesn't seem to mind either way. One of the products on the market (Instead) actually goes up inside of you and catches anything before it can come out. I use those often during my period and find that anything goes. I usually put the Instead cup in prior to having a shower. That way I know that I'm all clean.

I also find that if my period has just ended, having sex will usually make it reappear for a short while. If that does happen, the Instead cup will keep that from making a mess too.

Do you buy that online or in a store? Also, can it be felt when you have IC?

I have bought them at a pharmacy like CVS, but they can be difficult to find (not in every store). They are with the sanitary products. If they are inserted correctly, then no they will not be felt during IC. It does take some practice to get them inserted correctly. Luckily, you can practice with the same one over and over ... just rinse it off inbetween. (You can only rinse and reinsert when initially putting it in, do not rinse & reinsert after you have been wearing for a while -- they can not be reused.)

my dh has no problem with having sex while I have my period. I don't like going from IC to oral like I usually do when I have my period so I prefer to use something like the Instead cup. That is good to know that you can re-insert if you don't get it right the first time. I used to use a diaphragm for BC and still use it when I have my period to be like those Instead cups. I am using an IUD now for BC so the diaphragm was going to be tossed until I realized it's still useful. I did buy the Instead cups but had trouble getting them in easily.

I've never had a diaphragm, so I don't know what the difference is between those and the Instead cups. Are the sides as deep (the pink part on the Instead cup)? It seems to me the Instead cup could be a little bit more flexible and perhaps those sides could be softer -- but then I'm not sure they would work for their intended purpose. It's interesting to know that a diaphragm will work in a similar fashion.

I think you better make sure he is cool with before you spring it on him. He may think that you would not want to. Don't suprise him!
