Not my favorite time for sex, at least, not until the last day or so. I don't usually feel very well so I'm typically not in the mood. Only lasts for 3 days, so we both can wait.

I have a really long period 6-7 days. I don't like to go that long without sex, so I usually do it on my period. It's a non-issue between my BF and me; we just lay down a towel and go at it. I consider guys who are adamantly against even trying it pretty closed-minded and that trait is a turn-off for me.

I tend to get crampy the first few days, so obviously if I'm not feeling well I'm not up for it.

This may sound kinda weird, but there's something cool about making a bloody mess. Maybe it's the novelty factor, or adding some color to the mix, or maybe there is a certain intimacy in sharing even this aspect of your body.

Likewise dakine - gross! Haven't heard that term since school - and it was the boys that said it!!
I won't have sex during my period, just because of the mess really. Sex between me and DH is really "messy" anyway but I love that, I just don't fancy the blood thing. Saying that, by the time my period is just finishing, I am absolutely ravenous!!!(Funnily enough, I'm in the last couple of days now so DH can watch out this weekend!!LOL)

Occassionally we will have sex torwards the end of my period, when I'm just spotting so it doesn't make a mess but generally during my heavy flow, I don't like it because of the mess. And usually I'm not feeling very well. But my fiance always wanted to do it so there was one particular time when I was feeling good, in fact I was feeling so horny that I just didn't care about the mess! It was strange because I was extra sensitive and we had to take it slow which was really intimate and sexy. Afterwards, my fiance told me that this was the reason he was always saying we should try it, because he heard that a lot of women enjoy it since they're extra sensitive. I was relieved because I was worried he had some kind of blood fetish lol... just kidding, I didn't really think that.

Oh and oddly enough, even though it was during my heavy flow, there was no mess on the bed! I guess because we took it slow maybe?

Anyways, the part that usually turns me off about it is that your period isn't just blood, it's also bodily tissue and there's gooy clumps and blobs of it sometimes... ew. I guess now that I know how good it feels, I'd be more open to it regardless of that but normally I'm just not feeling well enough for it.

Yes, it was the boys, and it was a derogatory remark...if a girl was hard to get along with (not sexually, just in general) that was the nasty question....."are you on the rag"?

I honestly didn't know that term was used anymore....and I'll bet the young people who use it don't even know what it means. My Mom explained it to me when I was 13-14 years old. Kotex was the first "sanitary pad" invented, and I believe it was not until the mid 1930's. Before THAT, women used "rags", and WASHED them afterwards! Mom said they used things like old sheets or towels folded up and attached to their underwear with safety pins. Yowww, that must have been really uncomfortable. I also remember "sanitary belts"...another YUK, but then it was an improvement over what our Mothers had. Tampax came out when I was a teenager, and only married women were supposed to use them...not virgins.

Kids today don't have a CLUE! They probably think that self sticking pads and tampons were always around. I grew up with "neighborhood" groceries, where you had to ask the clerk (usually a MAN) for whatever you wanted. It was totally mortifying to have to buy Kotex. It still amazes me when I see men buying kotex or tampons in the supermarkets! Also, condoms were NOT on a shelf in the drugstore! The guys had to ask the pharmacist for them, or go to gas stations, where they had condom dispensers in the men's bathrooms.

Ah, memories, lol

my wife and I have done it during her period on occasion...she often says she doesn't want to do it then, but then when we do, she really enjoys the sensation!

She typically has a 3-5 day flow, so if it is early in her cycle, we will do it in the shower to help wash away the blood and mess. If it's in the middle, we will sometimes lay a towel down on the bed. If it's near the end, we'll just go at it without putting anything down and have yet to have a mess afterwards.

It's kinda funny that she always feels compelled to "apologize" afterwards for getting me messy, like I didn't know there would be blood on me...
I've told her a million times that I don't mind...it's not like it causes a permanent stain on my penis or anything and it wipes right off! But she still apologizes!

"I honestly didn't know that term was used anymore....and I'll bet the young people who use it don't even know what it means."

Well I guess it depends on your definition of "young people" but I'm 24 and I've known what it means since I was in my teens. I thought it was rather obvious, logically you'd only have to assume that before pads were created, what else was there except "rags"? I guess if you don't stop to think "what did women do before pads?" it wouldn't occur to you... but I think about stuff like that I pretty much assumed that was the reason for the term.

Oh and in England, they're not called "Pads" they're called "Towels" which is reminisent of "rag" and basically helps give away the origin as well.

"Kids today don't have a CLUE! They probably think that self sticking pads and tampons were always around."

That's a fairly rude and presumptious thing to say. I'm sure a lot of people don't stop to think about when exactly pads/self adhesive pads and tampons were created but I'm sure they know that kind of thing wasn't always around, even in relatively recent history. And we DO have mothers and grandmothers who talk to us about this stuff you know, just like your mother told you the origin of "on the rag", our mothers pass stuff on to us too. Not to mention books... yes, I've read "Are You There God, It's Me Margaret" which if I remember correctly was written before self adhesive pads. I read it when I was about 12. On top of all that there's also the important fact that these days we wind up having about 4 sexual education classes over the course of 7 years in school where we dicuss everything... including stuff like this. You may have partially lived through it but it's not like we're ignorant to everything that came before us so you can stop with such silly assumptions.
