Prostitute doesn't necessarily mean there has to be an exchange of money.
In the context of this discussion it does. The fact that people occasionally "prostitute themselves", or that a prostitute may give a freebie doesn't change the simple fact that if you a nnounce to someone "I am a prostitute" or "I am going to see a prostitute", they will assume sex for money is involved.

Let's take a woman in a bar who decides she's going to strip down to a thong bathing suit, and proceeds with several lap dances for many of the men there. She does this for free, although some of the men do buy her drinks.
Take a stripper in a club, doing the exact same thing, for money.
They are both doing the exact same act, with the only difference being that the professional stripper most likely wouldn't do it if not for the money.
Now high-end call girls with an exclusive list of a few customers might actually have enjoyable sessions but usually there is more of an emotional attachment there, even if it's still a service for money.
Men who frequent prostitutes for the most part, are not there to have a meaningful sexual encounter. They're there to get quick release.
What I've wondered is why prostitution (ie, selling one's body for sex) is illegal, but making porn movies (same thing) isn't.
I agree, after all most wives or girlfriends, would not want to engage in that kind of sex soooo they pay for it.
but the most logical reason is that they are selfish. why not just have yourself taken care of, to them it might be like going and have a massage is for us.
What I said was some men are afraid to *ask* for it, or think their W/GF will think it's strange. Although anal may be the last taboo, as fellatio is fairly common these days. It used to be you would NEVER ask your wife to do that! That barrier is pretty much gone now, it's standard practice, usually.
While a massage is touching, it's not sexual. I don't equate the two at all. I wouldn't be upset if DH was getting a licensed masseuse, but I would be upset if he were visiting a prostitute, for more reasons than one.
I'll grant you that guys do want "sluts" in the biblical sense. Have you ever heard the expression Why buy the cow when you can get the milk for free? Seems that you need to get a little self respect and then maybe guys will want you not what's between your legs.
Bah humbug!
Either:
1) You don't know any guys
2) You don't know any decent guys
or
3) You're yanking our chain
