Alright, well I've finally decided to vent. I'm 22yrs old, and I've never had sex. The truth is, I'm actually quite scared. I've been with guys, I've dated -- don't get me wrong, but ever since about a year ago...I was seeing this guy, and we did "other" things, and, well, let's just say I ended up with the most horrific case of UTI...and frankly, I just don't want to go through that again, but I really want to have sex, but I'm just not sure what to do?
Help a girl out!
<3,
JANE

Above all - remember that it's okay to be a 22-year-old virgin. Only do what you feel comfortable doing. When you're ready - you'll know.
Yes, you have had "sex"......you just haven't had intercourse. It's all sex, from kissing to touching, to all the "other things".
Sex, meaning intercourse and all the other things doesn't always cause UTI's.....obviously, or all women would have them all the time. An UTI comes from bacteria in the bladder, or severe irritation of the urethra. Some guys don't have any idea of the female anatomy, and since the urethra is in the middle of your vulva, if they get carried away, or too rough, you can get an infection. You need to learn about your body, and be aware if they're getting off the track or getting too rough, and then you stop them, and/or redirect them. Check out www.the-clitoris.com for more info on your body, and on UTI's.
There is nothing wrong with being a 22 year old virgin. It just shows that you're selective, and aren't willing to jump into sex with just anyone. Don't let fear of an UTI scare you off, but also don't let your age worry you into doing something you'll regret with the wrong person. When the time and person is right, you'll know it.
Back in September I got a bad bladder infection, and I'd never had one before. It was pure hell. I've been sexually active for five years or so, and I'd never had a bladder infection or a UTI. It was just because I had sex with a new partner, and it was particularly rigorous, which I wasn't used to.
As the other poster said, as long as you go to the toilet after any stimulation in that area and flush any bacteria out, then you shouldn't get UTIs.
Have sex when you feel ready to, not because you feel pressured, or because you think you're getting too old to be a virgin.
I must say, I am not an expert on UTI's but what the other people said sounds like it is worth a try. As for being a 22 year old virgin, big deal, when you are ready I hope it is great your first time, either way people like us are here to help you make it better. Don't rush what you are just not ready for, just to say you had sex or as someone else wanted to split hairs, penetration intercourse. Rember if you can't talk about STD's, his/or her ex's, etc you should not have sex yet.

omg bleugoddess,
I just started having sex a month ago, and I had the WORST UTI ever. I actually had to leave work to go to the clinic. And I have been feeling some coming on, but not as strong. So i'm drinking tea, cranberry juice and water like crazy and I think it's being stifled. But anyways, yeah they suck!
whatjane wants,
I was just a 22 yr old virgin. I thought I was going to be one forever. But then I randomly met my boyfriend at work..and it's all history from there. Just think...it REALLY does happen when you LEAST expect.
