please help me with this. i made a mistake and im afraid that its a very huge one. my period usually runs 5-6 days. although i will turn 18 in less than a month, i do understand my menstrual cycle is still changing. the 4th day into my period, i messed around with my boyfriend. we have not had sex and his thing went no where near my private area, but he did come on my hand. i also dont recall putting my hand anywhere near my private area afterwards. the next day i woke up and i had no more period. i also know that if the semen gets inside you even if you dont have sex, you can become pregnant. is there a way i might be pregnant? please help!!

Whether or not you can get pregnant has very little to do with your period. A woman can get pregnant at any time, but the chances of getting pregnant during your period are slim to none. If you don't want to get pregnant, then you really need to ecucate yourself about the reproductive cycle, and how women get pregnant!

You get pregnant when a sperm reaches an ovum. There are normally none present during your period, as the time for ovulation is normally halfway between the first day of your last period and the first day of your next period. If there's no ovum to reach, you can't get pregnant. However, since every woman's cycle is different, (not her menstrual period, her CYCLE) it's very difficult to tell exactly what day you will ovulate.

If you don't understand HOW you can get pregnant, then you shouldn't be "messing" around with sex. His penis doesn't HAVE to go into your vagina to get you pregnant, IF there's an ovum present. It's very unlikely that it would be present during your period.

At the very least, use a condom when you're "messing" around, then you won't have to worry. Unfortunately, "messing" around will often lead to more, and that's when you might just wind up pregnant. If you plan to continue, then you should see your gyno, which every female over 18 should do annually, and you can discuss birth control with the doctor. It's your body, and your responsibility to make sure you don't get pregnant.

Not sure anyone could echo dakine's thoughts any better.

PLEASE be encouraged to further your knowledge of sex AND your own body as well. A couple of areas that should really help you are:

Sexual Health

and

http://the-clitoris.com/

Consult your doctor--in confidence of course--and find out for sure if you do or don't have anything to worry about. From now on, LEARN before you fool around. The reason there are so many stories out there about unwanted pregnancy and diseases is because they DO happen and oftentimes because of lack of education and fooling around without proper protection.

DO NOT believe that proper protection is 100% all you need. You do need adequate knowledge of your own physiological system and the risks that come without protection WITH protection.

Hoping the best for ya!

Not to worry. One of the safest time to have sex is during your period. Your chances of getting pregnant are almost none. Your period changes, especially when late teens and early twenties. Your body is still getting used to it. However, if your period is irregular then you might want to get on the pill to regulate it and also protect yourself from future accidents.

You will be fine. Not to worry. I know it can get scary!!

Hope that helps!!

Famous last words, I'm afraid. Sorry, but that's not true. Many women have conceived during their periods believing that they are safe.

Sperm can live quite nicely in the vagina for up to 72 hrs. and women CAN and DO ovulate more than once a month, so with those two factors alone, it's simply NOT safe to have unprotected sex ANY time of the month.
