Sorry about being off topic but, have any of you have or have had your husband/BF/SO in the exam room at the doctors for a gyn exam? Is that wierd?

Also, any men out there please feel free to respond I would like your input on your feelings also.

Thanks,
Diane

I went to the OB visits to hear the heart beat but one time my wife's OB wanted me in the exam room while she did an internal. I don't think it bothered my wife or the Dr. they both get along great but I was a little on edge. I would only go if asked.
As for being on the other side, I'm a dentist and sometimes people want an SO in the room which doesn't bother me until they faint. That happens alot. People says they can handle the sight of blood and then bang down they go. We now put them in a chair in a corner so if they go out they don't fall down. Most of the time we give them a discription of what we are going to do and most go back out to the waiting room. By the way, we have never had a woman faint. It's always men and the big ones at that

Exactly why my big squeamish DH preferred to stay up by my head during delivery. LOL!

I have been in the room durring a yearly exam with my DW and have been in the room durring some other exams on past GFs. I can't say it ever bothered me one bit. My wife was generally fine with it, as were the others. It did however allow me to understand the apprehension involved for women in the exam. Its much moree invasive than any exam we have on a regular basis.

However, on a side note, given some recent fertility problems with me I prefer not to have my wife accompany me to the ultrasound or other tests. It's just different for me and I don't know why.

In my opinion, I wouldn't know why it would even be necessary. I don't see the big deal either way. The only reason I could see a significant other being in the room is if you're pregnant and you're checking out the sonogram. Otherwise, isn't a regular checkup boring and uneventful? I think if a man insists on being there, THAT'S WEIRD. That's controlling and disgusting, and that wouldn't fly with me, b/c it's not his job to make it his concern what goes on in the doctor's office, unless he's insecure and that's nobody you should want to be with no matter what!
