I had one in 2005, just short of my 41st birthday.

Hi and welcome. I don't think we've met. Will you please do me a favor and fill in your profile so we can know something about you? Thank you so much. Stick around and jump in anytime. The people here are wonderful..

As for your questions, try looking at plannedparenthood(dot)com. Go to their birth control section for vasectomies. I think that pretty much will answer all your questions. I've none a few men that have had them and had no problems, but everyone is different. You should talk to your medical provider and he/she will mostly likely

Hello, C! I'll answer your questions based on my own observation and on what my husband told me. He had a vasectomy about eight years ago.

The earlier posts are pretty good with a couple of exceptions...

Shaving. You only need to shave a small portion of the scrotum. Unless you wish to for other reasons, don't shave your pubic area.

Ice. I highly recommend it. Even if you think you feel fine. Limit your activity for several days. A friend played golf two days after his. He paid heavily for that.

My most uncomfortable part was the nausea when I discontinuied the codein painkillers.

It's wonderful not having to worry about birth control.

Good Luck

Welcome to the board, JimmyB, and thanks for joining in.

Out of curiosity, did the doctor tell you to it would be okay to masturbate?

I went to the planned parenthood site and they have basically the same advice.

I could give you a list of stats that proves that it's safer, easier, cheaper, less invasive, less risk from anesthesia, etc for the male to have a sterilization procedure instead of the female.
