What's The Difference?

DH came home Friday night(yeah!) and we needed a few things to make his homecoming even more romantic..So, after dinner, we stopped off at Wal-Mart and bought a new tube of KY. Well, we get home and start to fool around. He whips out the new KY and slips in..Talk about freaking painful, fire and brimstone. Holy crap, I was in tears I was burning so bad. But, we kept going. Well, the other night, DH was playing *blushing* my gyno..*giggle* and he noticed how red and irritated my vagina was. So, he grabbed the new tube of KY and rubbed a little on me..I yelled so loud because it was burning. He grabbed a warm washcloth and wiped it away. He grabbed the OLD tube of KY and rubbed a little on, and nothing. It was a nice cooling sensation..Ah, felt nice. I grabbed both bottles and read the ingredients to find the difference, but I'm not sure which one is causing the problem. So, if anyone out that there is smarter with chemicals than I am, I'd be happy to hear your opinion before I take this up with the doc..

OLD TUBE INGREDIENTS: Chlorhexidine Gluconate and Methlyparaben
NEW TUBE: Purified Water, Glycerin, Hydroxyehtylcellulose, Chlorhexidine Gluconate, Gluconolactone, Mehtlyparaben, Sodium Hydroxide.

My first instict was the Sodium Hydroxide only because I know a little bit about it from chem class in HS, but c'mon..I wasn't quite sure. But, there's something there that's just burning the hell out of me and I'd like to know what it is so that I can avoid this one ingredient in products I use..Its kinda like latex. *shrugs*

Is the new one the warming type that heats on contact? If so, whatever is used to create the heating may be the culprict.

No. Its the regular ol' KY..We have the warming liquid but never use it because he doesn't like it.

I can't help you here except to say that DW and I use (and love) Astroglide.

Astroglide burns too. There's something chemically different about the two KYs that I have that causes this reaction, I'm almost certain. I listed the ingredients of both tubes just in case someone could say, "Hey! It might be this ingredient..." *S* Thanks, though!

Fortunately it doesn't burn for us. Sounds like sensitive skin down there on your part.

Strange. I looked at the tube we have and it only lists the 2 ingredients. I looked on the internet and it is listed with the numerous ingredients you say yours had. The only thing I can think of is that Johnson and Johnson use two different manufacturers who use slightly different recipes. It's possible. Get another tube and make sure it only lists the two ingredients that you already know is fine. If you have no problems with it, contact J and J, see what they think. Good luck.

I'll do that. It's mind boggling, isn't it? The OLD tube has just two ingredients, but the new tube has all the others. It might be worth looking into J&J to find out if there is something different that would irritate my skin like that with the new tube of KY. It burned so bad there was a little bit of blood..I won't go through that again.
