since you lost your virginity?

Sometimes I find people very judgmental of sex outside of committed relationships, and I'm wondering if it's because they wound up in successful long term relationships relatively early or moved pretty quickly from one relationship to the next.

I completely agree that sex is best in a loving relationship, but there are long stretches where I'm not in one of those and not having sex is simply unrealistic for me.

9 months. It was after my divorce and I was feeling pretty sad and was busy trying to get my life back together and raising my daughter. I remember practically attacking the guy and climaxing felt like an explosion, lol. Even after 9 months though, I still wasn't really "ready" to have a relationship though. I was pretty heartbroken and lost. This guy worked at the office I worked at and kept after me, so I decided to toss caution to the wind and go for it.

12 years......and not a problem. Right now I'm working on 1.5 years, and still not a problem.

I don't think of sex as something "to do" or a necessity in my life, unless I'm in a relationship. When I'm in a relationship, I'm a VERY sexual person, but when I'm not in a relationship, I don't even think about sex.

At my age, I might wind up being celibate for the rest of my life. I hope not, but if that's the way it works out, I have wonderful memories to sustain me.

Wow, jo, that is a long time, but my Aunt is like this too. She lost her husband a while back and has not met anyone else (even though she would like to). She says the same thing that it is not really necessary for her at this age, but it would be nice!

However your comment: "but when I'm not in a relationship, I don't even think about sex". How can this be so when writing about sex? Whenever I am on these boards and posting, I am definitely thinking about sex!

A year. I broke off an engagement and met my DH a year later.

I had a 1 year stretch then a one night stand (which HARDLY counts right??? ;)) then a 2 year stretch that followed...so kinda like 3 years- with a one night stand in the mix.

Before this 3 year period I'd had another 1.5 year stretch.

thank GOD for vibrators right??

5 Months

I agree with what was said in another post, when I'm not in a relationship I don't really get the urge to have sex with someone.
