Why are facials degrading?
| Sun, 08-06-2006 - 8:28pm |
I have seen many posts that describe facials as degrading to a woman. Why is that? I've always asked a partner if I could cum on her body before I did it, and wouldn't do it without permission. What is it, though, that makes a facial particularly objectionable? I don't see where it's any more degrading than cumming in her mouth, or on her breasts, etc.

I personally don't find it degrading but many women do.
I think you'd have to ask the particular individuals who took exception to the practice of facials, in order to get an accurate answer to your question.
It seems to be all about individual preferences. What about the woman who enjoys receiving facials (or a flogging for that matter) from her partner? In her case is it a degrading act or one that expresses caring?
Anything intentionally dehumanizing or that results in the dehumanization of someone could be considered degrading. But everyone is so unique that making an objective statement like this regarding an act like facials probably isn't realistic.
Genealogical Musings
Imagine a woman ejaculating...and a guy down there getting it on his shoulder, or maybe his torso or legs, etc. That's probably not such a bad visual to your mind. Now imagine a guy getting hosed right in the face and seeing it dripping down his face and maybe running through his hair. Doesn't it seem at all like the behavior has a woman-dominating-man tone to it? I don't see anything wrong with it as long as both parties are aware of the connotations of such an act and are willingly playing their roles.
Maybe women are more disturbed because there are still a lot of guys out there who don't perceive women to be their equals and use porn as a way to depict women in the degrading and discomforting situations and positions that make them feel vindicated or triumphant. In much the way that the "s" word is employed often, *very* often, in porn. Like, "Watch this sl*t get rammed by my monstrous c*ck." (Hope it's Ok to use this as an example.) Or "This b*tch can't wait to eat my juicy cum." Not very respectful of women, no? So we're very touchy about what's respectful and what isn't.

I think that ukgirl is right on the money. The face has a special significance in pretty well every culture. Touching the face is a taboo area in normal everyday interactions - when do you last recall touching a stranger's face? It's reasonably acceptable to touch a shoulder or an arm or even perhaps a hip but you don't touch a face unless you know a person very well.
If there two people involved in the facial both want it then I don't see any problem with it, but normally throwing body fluids and secretions around is quite insulting behaviour. Combine that with the significance of the face, that it's something that a man does to a woman during a sexual act and I think that you've got all the ingredients for an insulting macho powerplay.
HAHAHA...I had to read your entire post slowly to understand what you meant by "facial". I thought you meant the kind you got from the Mary K lady! I was like..."facials aren't degrading, they feel great". Thanks for a good laugh at the end of an extremely long day :)
Now being serious...what is it that gets a guy (maybe you, since you asked the question) off on giving a "facial"? Maybe you should blow a few loads into a supersoaker watergun and let your girl give you a facial. To me, a guy giving a facial would seem like he got off on control, someone else's submissiveness, and maybe degradation of the opposite sex. I understand men are very visual creatures and porn (for alot of guys) is a "fantasy-release". Is your fantasy to gosh, how do I say this correctly? Is your fantasy to have a sexual encounter that emulates a porn movie? If so, talk to your girl about this and see if she is willing to play along with you. UKgal hit the nail on the head however when she stated that alot of porn is degrading to women just in the titles and "language" used to describe what's in the movie and attract viewers.

The Face IS the person, essentially. The breasts, stomach, vagina are just body PARTS. Just as spitting or slapping a face humiliates a person, facials can do the same thing, IMO. And that's WHY the face is targeted in the first place.

Haha. I HAVE given a guy his own facial before. But this watergun idea HAHA. It adds a whole new twist.
