I've seen moms around the boards ask if they should buy their daughter's a vibrator. I'm not sure how I would have reacted if my mom had bought me one.

I think there are some basic things that kids need to know, they should learn them from a combined effort (of parents, schools, and others) ... things like sex isn't bad, there's no guilt associated with masturbation, the body goes through hormonal changes, about safe sex and birth control, etc. The better educated any person is, the better they are able to deal with things they are faced with. If kids have questions, I think they should get honest, non-judgmental answers. Once those answers are given, I think it's okay to relay your own beliefs, as your own beliefs, and to open dialog so that you can discuss views openly.

I think some moms and daughters are close enough that giving a first vibrator is an okay idea. I think if the daughter expresses an interest in having one, the mom should definitely be open to helping her get one. I also think there are daughters who would be embarrassed to have their moms that involved in their sexuality. Both sides of the situation need to be respected, so I don't think I'd go along with a blanket statement that all moms should give their daughters vibes.
