Drugs? Should we go there?
| Mon, 08-07-2006 - 6:47am |
I have been surprised to see a couple of recent threads here concerning (and subtlety promoting!) the use of illegal drugs as sexual enhancers.
Remember, these are the same boards that require us to use "proper" terminology when discussing body parts and don't allow us to post links to any sites which may include "offensive" material.
Believe me, I am far from being a prude, but I can't help but wonder whether this is a good thing.

Jackson, I appreciate your concern.
>>>I think even threads considered "more conservative" by some (even on this board of 'taboos') should get respect and not get bashed straight away<<<
Chakra, I totally agree!
Well, at this point I am fairly convinced that journeyman (http://messageboards.ivillage.com/n/mb/message.asp?webtag=iv-rltaboos&msg=5366.40&x=y) is the only one here who actually read my original post.
But, hey, whatever...
I'm glad you understand where I'm coming from. I too dislike seeing people get ganged-up on. It's not fair, and it shows that if someone doesn't agree with you, then their opinion is automatically irrelevant--that shouldn't be the case. However, people are going to behave in whatever way they see fit, and some are a little more sensitive than others when they feel their stance on something is being challenged. My grandmother used to always tell me that "In this world, people aren't always going to like you or agree with what you say, but if you believe in what you're saying, then don't change your views or back down just because you start feeling the pressure." Obviously in this day and age, free-thinking is more popular and we're supposed to be more tolerant than our forefathers. However I notice that many are intolerant of any "right wing" or conservative brand of thought.
For the western part of the world to progress to the point of "acceptance" it has, this means that some members of the older generation had to at some point make compromise and realize that their thinking was not always the way things should be. That said, if we can accept new bizarre ideas, why then can't we show respect to those who choose to hold on to a set of morals and beliefs that our grandparents once held and, even some of us still hold to this day? You can't have a successful future if you don't remember your past (mistakes and all). I don't know, the whole thing just boggles my mind.
Bottom line is, just about everything has pros and cons/a light and a dark side. Yea, some may say that the pros to doing drugs is that it makes you feel good. That seems to be acceptable material to state. However, if someone in contrast states that drugs may indeed make you feel good, but they can cause damage to your body at the same time, then they are automatically seen as attacking or trying to put another's idea of a good time down. Really all that person was doing was stating the FACTS, that drugs have an up and down side (This was an example by the way). It's the same with sex. It feels wonderful and most us have fun participating in it, but if you bop around and don't use protection or good judgment, you end up not be feeling so good while you have sex, and you'll have a nice case of an STD or some other ailment to take care of--so there's the ying and yang of that, lol. Anyway, I'm not accusing people of teaming up on any one person because they disagree with their beliefs, but I am saying that if a person is made to feel that's happening, then it's probably not cool. There's always a diplomatic way to say things. Besides, I pretty much dig the writings of most who post here, we should keep the peace.

I agree with journeyman that you raised a valid topic for discussion.
