Fisting info

I just ran across this in Dan Savage's column on thevillagevoice.com and thought I would pass it on:
>>>Done correctly—lots of lube, lots of time—fisting won't hurt you. Done incorrectly—too little lube, too little time—and fisting could land you in the hospital, at the morgue, or on the Drudge Report. While there's tons of good info on the Web about vaginal fisting, I urge wannabe fisters to invest in a copy of A Hand in the Bush: The Fine Art of Vaginal Fisting by Deborah Addington. <<<

Who's tried it?

When I was in nursing and was doing rotations in the E.R. there was a teenaged boy who inserted the straightened end of a wire coat hanger into his urethra, and couldn't get it out after he was done. X-rays showed that once it hit the bladder the edge had curled back up somewhat into its original shape. He had to have surgery to have it removed. There was a pretty substantial incision made into the base of the penis itself and the bladder. Poor guy couldn't use his penis for close to a year as far as sexual intercourse was concerned (at least that's what he was told after the surgery)....but something tells me that he wasn't engaging in that too often anyway. He just seemed like a shy, misinformed teenager---too bad he had that happen.
I saw a case as well similar to what NHgal was saying about the *lost* tampon. There was a college student who was admitted with pains in her lower belly and a foul smell/discharge coming from her vagina. Afraid that she might have an std or some other serious infection, she finally decided to come in to the E.R. Upon examination, the doctor found a tampon in this young lady that had been in there for 3 weeks! She said that she had since used other tampons and even had sexual intercourse a couple of times since then. What finally made her decide it was serious was when her friends started complaining of a terrible odor coming from her nether regions. She was admitted and given intravenous antibiotics for two days, but that was just a precaution because other than the foul discharge and pain, she had no other symptoms of TSS (toxic shock syndrome), just a localized infection, whereas as TSS is more systemic. She said she just couldn't understand why she didn't feel the tampon inside, but those newer tampons that are smaller and made to be less intrusive are known for getting *lost*, particuarly with teenagers and younger women who are more likely to use them. They just forget that they are there.
Some gynecologists now tell young women to carry around a pocket-sized calendar during their cycle and to put a check mark in the appropriate date's slot for every tampon they use and what time it was changed, just to keep track and make sure that nothing is left behind---I think this is a great idea, better to be safe than sorry.

I forgot to comment about the fisting---I'm not interested in it, neither is my husband, but each to his own. If anyone does try it, I think they should read the book "Hand in the Bush". Although, it doesn't apply to anything I'd do, it gives a nice history and great tips on how to do it safely and with care. In the book, it was also explained that there are different types of fisting, your whole fist doesn't necessarily have to go in an orifice for the act to be called *fisting*.---interesting read anyway even if you don't dig this particular activity.
