“Free the Nipple”

There is a movie due to come out on June 1, 2014 called “Free the Nipple.”  It is by Lina Esco.  This is a feature film about women being arrested in New York City for not covering their nipples in public despite a 1992 NYS Court of Appeals ruling that there is no NYS law forbidding a woman from not covering their nipples in public as long as the woman is not being paid to do so.  I would be interested in learning what people, in particular women, think of this.  The idea of public nudity, female or male, interests me.

Is there a point to "freeing the nipple" or displaying them on public street?  There are nudist places, there are nude beaches, and there are private homes where people can go naked if they want to.  It's not necessary to do it in public.  What's next, free the penis?  Some people will do anything for their 15 minutes of fame!

Fissatore, thank you for your comment, you raise interesting questions.  First, “Is there a point to “freeing the nipple” or displaying them on a public street?”  Being a man and since it appears to me that the “Topfreedom” movement is mainly promoted by women it is difficult for me to answer that.  (Topfreedom refers to the concept of a woman being allowed to not wear a top anywhere that a man is allowed to not wear a top.)  However, from my readings it seems to me the point for these women is to be more comfortable in the same way that a man would find it to be more comfortable to go without a shirt in certain situations.  For example, it appears to me that Moria Johnston, a promoter of topfreedom, didn't like that she was not allowed to be without a shirt in a yoga class at the same time that men were allowed to be without a shirt when she just wanted to be more comfortable in the same way the men wanted to be more comfortable.  So a female supporter of topfreedom might ask is there a point to not “freeing the nipple” or not displaying them on a public street?  As to “What’s next, free the penis?” it seems to me that the main point of supporters of topfreedom is the fact that men are allowed to expose their nipples in public, but in most places women are not.

In thinking about this topic I am not sure if this board is the most appropriate place for it.  While topfreedom is a taboo, even in places where it is legal, I feel it is not necessarily innately sexual, at least, not anymore than a woman baring her legs in public or a man baring his chest in public.

I agree with free the nipple campaign. I think people should have the freedom to wear whatever they want to wear anywhere.
