Being careful, have you ever tried inserted anything--including a finger or object--into your or your partner's urethra?

I think you have to accept that this is out of the realm of fun for a lot of people, and that all many people see are red flags.

Agreed. I've been lucky never to have had a UTI, although I could have easily gotten a UTI from just having sex rather than using a catheter in urethra play. Women, of course, are inherently more susceptible to UTIs because of their short urethras. Once again, common sense should always reign. Something like this has to be exciting, not scary, for it to be worth trying. For example, I have no interest in bungee jumping, even though rationally I understand that if it's done right it isn't especially dangerous. Any maybe if I tried it, I'd feel differently about it. Anyway, having tried urethra play, I understand the risks--and that adds to the kinkiness of it--but it is pleasurable if you do it right. If not, yes, I agree, it's potentially dangerous, or at least risky.

I have seen several Anesthesia super bills for just this, people get curious and adventurous, next thing you know, you end up in the ER, then the OR to get tooth picks, swizzle sticks, pen refills, ballons (yes, I said ballons!), etc removed from the urethra and/or bladder. Curiosity kills the cat I've always heard. Urologist do have to teach some people to self cath themselves due to medical conditions and genital trauma but even when medically necessary, most patients find themselves "non-compliant" as it's a difficult process to learn and many just can't do it to themselves. For me, I can't see any sexual benefit and from a medical point of view it's too dangerous. I can not imagine how I'd explain foreign bodies or urethral and bladder trauma if I had to! I wouldn't be open to this at all, his or mine.

I agree. Common sense needs to be exercised when doing stuff in the urethra. It's not for everyone. And certainly sticking toothpicks or other stuff that can easily get lodged in the mucosa is just plain stupid.

Done it for YEARS....almost lost some pieces of crayon once or twice and the top half of a click pen....but the nice thing about males is you can squeeze the shaft front and back and slide "lost" items back out. In fact would use that method to push items down to the very base of the penis where I would get this peculiar ache that could only be relieved by insertion....NOT a UTI, just this "ache" I could not relieve without insertion. NEVER got a UTI.

Finally felt secure enough in my marriage to reveal this strange practice to DW a little while ago and offered to put on a "show" for her. She said she wanted to SEE this, so I did it in front of her with a piece of flexible tubing and OMG that act had NEVER felt that good. I asked her if she might be interested in me doing it to her and she agreed....she hasn't had issues with being sensitive there during oral and has actually enjoyed when I poke my tongue at the urethra. So performed it on her a few nights later which led to a WILD night of sex. Before I started she put a shower curtain down on the bed with a towel and the insertion led to some playing with the urine because she kept saying it felt good and go deeper and she found out she LIKES watersports when urine started coming out of the tube. Amazing what can happen in a secure relationship. Her peeing on me has ALWAYS been a fantasy of mine, but that is for another thread.

No UTI reported yet with DW and still no issues with me.

Lots of fun,
tk

That's great to hear! Typically, healthy people have urethras that can withstand a little bit of careful play. It's just a question of making sure that anything you stick in there is pretty clean and that it's done gently. It's not necessary to dress up in sterile suits to do this in spite of some of the horror stories that have been told here. The vast majority of UTIs have nothing to do with poking around in the urethra. I poked around for years and have never had a problem.

I play in SO's quite a bit with my tongue during oral. He seems to like it, though I *love* it. And when he's fingering me, he always focuses on the urethra at some point. It's a VERY enjoyable sensation. He never sticks anything in there (because I am prone to UTIs now, apparently), but the pad of his fingers will gently stretch it out a bit, and OMG it's a fabulous sensation!!!! I usually follow it with a good golden shower on him, which he loves. I was told by a nurse friend that if he's going to be playing there, it's probably best that I do flush immediately by peeing!!!!! When using vibes, they will wind up on the outside of the urethra sooner or later and bring on some of my best O's.
