I've been considering becoming a pastry chef for the last several months.
As some of you know I have a job now. That job sucks. My boss is a rude, angry person who likes to dump a lot of extra work on me if she doesn't want to bother with it or, more likely, just doesn't know how to do it. I end up leaving at 6 or later to solve problems while everybody else is gone at 4:30. The "early shift" has been available 3 different times since I've been there but they won't give me the option of taking it because they want me there late instead, but it would just be common courtesy to make it available to me since I've been there a little while.
The company overall is horrible, people run away all the time. Over half of the entire building has turned over in the last year and a half/2 yrs. Some people don't even have jobs when they decide to leave, it's THAT bad.
There is 1 other person in the dept. that knows what they're doing and can do it fast. She tells me yesterday (apologizing for leaving me LOL) that she's giving her notice today. We already know that the company doesn't plan on replacing whoever leaves ($$$$$) so things will most certainly be getting even worse for me than they already are.
My parents passed away young, so I have about $75-80K in the bank and since (as you may know) I have no social life, I'm not exactly spending that $$$ anyways. I don't live paycheck to paycheck. It would take, who knows, 3-4-5 years (longer) before $$$ would be an issue for me.
QUESTION: Should I just quit now? I don't want to be there, every summer gets ruined by my job and this will likely be the worst one in the 3 yrs. I've been there. I'm going to be getting advice from family this weekend when I stop by delivering candies I've made, but I'd like some opinions here too.

Jeff,
By all means QUIT. Your health is everything in life. Look at all these multi-millionaires that die at an early age. Would you trade places with them? Would anyone? Death can come quickly to those who allow themselves to be stuck in a job that makes them unhappy, and causes the stress levels to reach heights that can kill. Even if you decided to stay, your co-workers who are miserable will allow their bad vibes to affect you in the end.
I have had a couple jobs in my career that made me hate getting up and going in there for another miserable day. At one point my daughter pleaded with me to quit....she had noticed a drastic change in my attitude, my health, and my overall outlook on life. I took her advice and quit a well paying job with no other prospects at that particular time. It took me a few weeks to find something 100 times better for me. I was a happy man again.
Follow your dream.....we only have one crack at this thing called life. Please don't waste an opportunity to begin a career doing something you enjoy, and have a passion for. Things always seem to work out in the end if you really and truly want it and go for it.
Good luck to you......man, would a danish taste good right now....:)
Thank you....looks yummy. The story of my life though.....I bought a sausage sandwich off the roach coach that stops here, so I'm not that hungry right now.
I would have preferred the danish to the garbage they try passing off as food here....yuck.
Question for you.......where do you find a picture of anything and everything someone mentions? And I'm talkin' minutes and voila......there it is!!
That's a talent many of you have here....but with all due respects to the other posters, I believe you take first prize.
As you can see, I'm sitting here working really, really hard today...... I must be off......nice to chat with you BL. And nice to see you're back in the saddle again. Stay healthy and happy.
Save it for snacktime!
Go to photobucket(dot)com. It's a free place that has lots and lots of pictures of just about anything you look for!
Thank you......I'll save it for later.
I border on complete computer illiteracy......so I'll let the rest of you techy experts handle the photobucket stuff if that's alright....:))
I remember not too many years ago I had a job that required SOME spreadsheet work and word documents to be performed from time to time. One of the IT guys brought in this big, new, fancy computer for my office....I looked at him and asked whats up?
He told me my boss said to give me one so I can crank out some programs, memos and the like. I worked there 2 full years and NEVER turned the thing on.....swear to god. I was petrified......I ended up leaving that job, and before I began my new one I figured I best be knowing something about computers since I had mentioned my prowess of them in my resume I had just updated!! In the 2 weeks in between jobs, I actually became comfortable enough with them to finally start using one......just not like you all do.
I need to add, Jeff...take a good look at Male's siggy!!
No need to be afraid of computers...they can only do what you tell them to.
I promise to keep you in furs and jewelry for a long, long time faboome......lol.
I ain't stupid, but I'm sure not smart either!!
You picked a good field to be in. There's a ton of people out there, as you well know, that are "challenged" like I am.
Jewelry and furs?
