What is your favorite Holiday Tradition?

Is it something you did as a child?

A grown up Tradition?

Im looking to steal some ideas here!

My favorite tradition is the get together on the Solstice. It's tradition for members of the kindred (which can be either an organized group of Heathens or just your family and best friends) to get together on the longest night of the year to celebrate the return of the sun god. We always have a bonfire and will preform a Symbel (the drinking ritual), pay hommage to the gods, reflect on those we've lost this year and honor our ancestors. In the old Norse world it was considered a slap in the face to your hosts if you didn't get completely obliterated with alcohol during this celebration. it was always held at the house of the local brewer, who made the mead and ale. To not get drunk indicated you did't appreciate the brewers craft and was taken as an insult. Then you and your host would fight it out lol..so it was safer just to get drunk lol...and probably alot more fun lol. But in all seriousness, this and the midsummer festival are my favorites throughout the year.

I won't be doing anything like that, just baking a cheesecake to take to my cousin's house :-)

I'm trying to decide on peanut butter cup or egg nogg. I still have time to make up my mind

My favorite tradition and only been a tradition for 10 years, since the kids went to their Dads for Christmas Eve, DH and I drive around and look at Christmas lights. We really enjoy this.

I used to go to my MILs and have tamales for Christmas Eve and hang with the family. I loved this.

We also have a tradition that we have had since I was a kid. We open presents from the youngest to the oldest. One present at a time, so everyone can see what you have gotten. You only get to open one and then the next person goes, it can take a long time when all my sisters adn their kids are home. It is also fun figuring out who goes next.
