... and anyone else who's familiar with the Pacific NW!

My DS and I are taking a look at doing a bike trip next summer that would start in Redmond, and do a big loop east through the Cascades, passing through Leavenworth, Chelan, Winthrop, Newhalem, Mount Vernon, and then back to Seattle by way of some of the islands in Puget Sound. We did a similar ride 3 years ago through the Columia River and Klickitat Gorges, just north and east of Portland, Oregon, but that's really the only part of Washington State that we're at all familiar with. I'm wondering if there's anything you can tell me about this part of the Cascades, and how similar/different it is from southern Washington?

Thanks!

Oh, and has anyone seen Singletrack lately? He still owes me a story from the World Series! ;o)

Sorry I cant help you with your first question, since I dont live anywhere in that country..lol. I was wondering about singletrack also, he may be walking the picket lines with the writers who are on strike.

Northern WA is a little more green, a little more wet and a lot more hilly!

Thanks for answering KD!! I don't know about Washington, but I know Redmond is more 'extreme' than the valley (where I live) Much warmer and drier in the summer, but much colder and snowier in the winter!

That looks like a great trip!! You'll be going through some beautiful areas. When I first heard you were looking at a bike trip through the cascades, I mistakenly thought you meant NOW (LOL) which would be silly because it's pretty cold and snowy in the cascades right now!!

not to mention you run the risk of them closing the passes!

LOL... I've lived in Colorado, so I'm quite familiar with the concept of roads that close down during the winter. Definitely too cold for a bike trip right now, though... either there or here. DS and I have a hard and fast rule that we don't ride if the temperature is below freezing, and he usually wines if we go out and it's below 40°. ;o)
