Hyper Sexuality or just a cop out?

so I was watching this show on the Science Channel (I know, I'm a nerd) which explored different ways the "breaking system" in the brain can affect impulses and desires; if tampered with or injured in any way, the breaking system for certain things can become defunct, leaving you desiring something constantly, to the detriment of your way of doing things before the injury.

there was this one lady on the show who suffered a brain hemorrhage and when she regained her health, was diagnosed with hyper sexuality. a married woman who was once stoutly devoted to her husband, the lady featured developed such a high libido, she would literally have sex with any guy she meets, and had affairs almost every time she went out of the house. her husband, a paranoid wreck it seems, would follow her each time she stayed out of the house for longer than expected to ensure that she was not cheating. the lady said that she couldn't help herself, and that she desired sex all day long. she said she completely enjoys the encounters she has, but afterward feels guilt.

my questions- does anyone else think that this might just be a crock of...well you know, or do you think she's honest? what would you do if your DW or SO had this problem?

my answers- i think that she may have a valid argument as to why she has affairs so frequently, but the fact that she feels guilt throws me...if its involuntary, why does she feel guilt? if my SO was like that, well, i think i would try to help him seek help, but i'm kinda selfish, and wouldn't be able to handle that for long.

I think I have to side with lothiriel here even though I wouldn't rule it out because what we know about the brain in a eye dropper of water in a 1000 gallon barrel ..... but as lothiriel pointed out ......

"once it's recognized there is no reason the person who suffered the injury can't take steps to control it."

I just think that too many people use medical and psychological conditions as a crutch, an excuse for behavoir they wouldn't otherwise condone. It's really gotten out of hand. People don't take personal responsibility for their actions anymore.
