I got a new job

Master and I have been having a very difficult time of it lately, mainly because W/we didn't have jobs. I work for a non-profit cat sanctuary, but as anyone who's worked for a non-profit knows, you get such little pay that you might as well be volunteering. Master is a college student and His class schedule was so wacky last semester that He couldn't fit a job into it. W/we've been really worried, wondering how W/we were going to survive the summer. He isn't going to summer school so He wasn't going to get a student loan to help U/us through. W/we own O/our home, so W/we wouldn't end up without a roof over O/our heads, but things like food and electricity are necessities that W/we weren't sure W/we could afford.

I wanted to go back into working in a veterinary clinic and had been looking since last fall. I was having a lot of problems finding a position. For one thing, it had been a long time since I worked as a vet assistant and the field has changed a lot since then. Also, I worked as a vet assistant and not as a vet tech, so there were duties, such as drawing blood, that I was never trained on how to do. It seems today that the vet techs do the majority of the work and do everything except for making the diagnosis and performing the surgery. One of the clinics wouldn't hire me on the basis that I didn't know how to draw blood, yet they weren't willing to train me (when I first started in the field I went in with no experience and learned everything through on the job training). But I kept plugging away, sending in resumes, filling out applications and gave interviews but with no job offers.

I had applied for a job as a kennel tech at an emergency vet clinic. This job offered training and advancement, which meant that I could learn things like how to draw blood and move up to beyond being a kennel tech (though there is certainly nothing wrong with being a kennel tech. That was my first vet job, after all). Well, on Tuesday I learned that the emergency clinic decided to hire me! Right now I'll be working on the weekends and the holidays, which will allow me to continue working during the week at the cat sanctuary. I start my new job tomorrow.

And more good news: on Monday Master has an interview for a summer internship at one of the financial departments of the county government. He is an accounting major, so this will be good experience for Him. And the pay is pretty good, too.

I feel like a weight has been lifted off my shoulders and that I can breath freely again.
