Summer vacation is almost here for so many and for us who still have to work but like a vacation from serious reading material, what suggestions would you like to share for some sizziling summer reading material?

I just finished a a book last night called "The Red Diary" by Toni Blake... I also read one of her others called "In Your Wildest Dreams". I thought they were both excellent.

While not for everyone I will recommend Henry Miller's "Under the Roofs of Paris". Back in 1941 Miller was commissioned to write an erotic novel for a dollar a page...and this is what he came up with.....its a great book, and I love Miller. He's one of my favorite authors.

>>>Henry Miller's "Under the Roofs of Paris"

Hmmm will have to try that one.

"Tropic of Cancer" is a good choice also, but can be hard to follow along.
Although I like Henry, I once wrote "Henry Miller is to ADD what algebra is to dyslexia" (sp?).

Walt Whitman "Leaves of Grass" is also quite enjoyable.

I couldnt agree more lol..Tropic of Cancer (& Capricorn) were great..but you're right can be hard to follow for some...I also enjoyed the Rosy Crucifixion Trilogy of Sexus, Plexus and Nexus....I love the way he writes

While not sexy I'd also recommend "The Wanting Seed" by Anthony Burgess (in case no ones familiar, he wrote "A Clockwork Orange", also an excellent, albeit difficult read)

Warning: Some of these title can be like a car wreck. Intuitively it may not be something you want to see, but for some reason or another you slow down and take a look.

You may not pick up the book if you know what your about to read but once you start you may not be able to stop. This may cause you to ask yourself some questions.

If you're intersted in some epic fantasy, then I would suggest starting the Kushiel's Legacy series by Jacqueline Carey. Her books are long, complex, very detailed and her main character is a pain slut like yours truly and Lothiriel. There are six books in the series (the sixth one is out this month in hardback; all the others are available in paperback). I'm currently on book #3. I just love this series!

Another book I highly recommend is "American Gods" by Neil Gaiman..he is quite possibly the best storyteller in recent years. The book reads like you're watching a movie and is filled with all sorts of references to folklore and myth..he really outdid himself with this one..and if you read it and enjoy it check out "Anansi Boys" as well..I didn't enjoy it quite as much as American Gods, but this is because of my preference for Norse and European myth

This series showed me that I was definitely a pain slut. The heroine of the series, Phedre, is basically a sacred prostitute (though she calls herself a courtesan). At one point she stumbles on her path and isn't sure if she wants to remain in service to Naamah (a fallen angel who's motto is "Love as thou wilt." Kinda sounds like "All acts of love and pleasure are My rituals" from the Charge of the Goddess). So Phedre goes into a temple to be flogged, to be purified by pain. The scene isn't even described as erotic, but believe me, I was majorly turned on by this scene! Yep, I'm a pain slut all right!
