Do The BUMP!

I have been bumping stories and writers I have enjoyed in the past.

I'd like to invite others to bump a favorite story so that they can be enjoyed by a new audience or an appreciative old one...

This is a situation where the "rate a post" would definitely be a good thing (I'm guessing we got rid of that -- we had it around couple years a go -- 1 to 5 stars).

Wish there was another way to separate the new stuff from the old classics. New contributors are being missed out on as the old classics are being brought back to life. I confess, I don't have much time to read and when I see a thread with GOBS of posts I have no clue if there's that much "story" to it or that much commentary to it, understand? There may be 200 posts to the thread and I don't want to sit and read a long story, but it could be that people have chit chatted or done the Yes, Yes, Yes? two seconds after someone posts. I'm now very hesitant to comment strictly because of that -- BUT that's not fair to the authors either.

I don't know what the answer/solution is -- It's almost like we need a writer's folder. Using Steve as an example, he can have links to all his stories and people can read his story in one folder (w/ NO comments) and then go to the review folder and say "Steve I just read XYZ and I think it's awesome, I can't wait to read the next chapter, blahblahblah". That way when a new board member comes along they can see that story XYZ really only has 20 pages to it and isn't that long a read.

Right now I use the "red flag" on threads I comment on and it's especially helpful on sex boards, but moreso here in the Steamy Stories folder. There are stories I will not read because they are one huge paragraph and I just cannot sit and read like. I need it broken down. It might be an awesome story. But if I've read it, and enjoyed it, I will comment at least once so the flag is showing and then I know to follow it whenever a flagged thread bounces back up top.

And my two examples would erase each other -- if you can't comment on actual story, how would you know when it gets edited? Hmmm, I dunno.

That's my two cents.

And I'm off to find lunch or dinner, actually breakfast cuz I haven't eaten today.

Sorry to ramble.

You have not rambled in the least Nola. You make some very good points.

I have not been able to figure out how to show both older classics and new things in one place. I would love it if someone came up with a workable solution.

I do want to stress that we have many readers who enjoy a wide variety of genres. I understand the benefit of rating posts, however, I also would not want to bury a story with a small but interested audience.

I hope to continue this discussion and get some input from the readers.....

What if the author just put links on the first posting to new chapters.

That might work as long as the author remembered to do it. Just name then Chapter 1, 2, 3, etc..

Good idea!

killy!

You hit the jackpot with that thought!

Your solution is just the sort of idea I was hoping would pop up from a comment on another thread.....

NHGal said: I agree that sometimes there are so many posts, that it makes someone not want to read them all just to get to part of a story. I'm wondering if there is some way that the tech people can somehow do something so that the author can do something to say it's a continuation, and somehow put a flag on it? Like alerting a reader to jump from post 1 to post 7, to post 13.... There must be something that they can think of!

Thank you.

I am going to begin to work on contacting writers to see if they are willing to link subsequent story postings to their original post.

I hope you know how much I appreciate this!

Personally, I'm not big on the idea of using multiple threads to post different chapters of the same story. It tends to lead to one story dominating the "front page" of the folder to the detriment of other writers and their work.

In the Patrick & Nathalie stories that Nenu and I co-author, we've always tried to link to the previous story in the first post of a thread, and when a new one gets posted, to edit the last post of the previous story to link to the new one.

Are you saying you are not a fan of editing the original post, after the fact, to include links to subsequent chapters?

I think the edit method gives a reader a chance to enjoy the entire story in one smooth reading.

I do want to hear what the writers have to say as well as make things easier for the readers.
