I have been asked to attend many formal functions in December by date.. I don't have the funds for the needed attire. Can I ask date to pay for the necessary dresses, etc. Do I bow out ... or how does one approach the subject with requestor. Thanks so much for needed advice.

It depends on whether you really want to go to these functions or not. If so, be honest with your date and tell him that formal dresses, matching shoes and hand bags cost money, money you don't have. He can either offer to help with the purchases or find another date.

The other option is Goodwill. No, you won't be wearing the latest fashions but a keen eye can put you in a respectable outfit for pennies. When all is said and done, nobody really remembers what you wear anyway.

I have a formal function tomorrow night, I will be wearing last-years shoes and a dress somebody gave to me. I'm not going to worry about it.

Another good place to look is consignment stores in your area. They might have more up to date clothing at discount prices.
