...without sexual energies/thoughts entering into the relationship?

Of course! They may find each other attractive but it doesnt mean there is sexual chemistry. Most of my friends are men, as I get along with men better in general. Most of my male friends have girlfriends and kissing or any other intimate behavior doesnt even come to my mind when I hang out with my male friends.

yes, they certainly can be.
even if something intimate does enter the mind, it could be "momentary", and IS and CAN be killed. esp. when one or the other has a GF or BF, or is married, or they might be someone we don't see a future with. most people will hold the reigns and simply not let their thoughts GO THERE, and remain the coolest friends, since they value each other as just friends, and don't want any complications. They don't want to lose that friendship either.

If both are single, it could go eitherways. Two friends can hang out together all the time, and know that there could be nothing more, or they dont WANT anything more. there "might" be some sexual tension, but "acting on it" is something most people might never ever do. Plus, it also takes two to tango, to be on the same page, to make something happen. An advance can either be accepted or rejected...

Hope I am making sense...

Interesting topic.
